Who am I?
Expert singing teacher, specialising in teaching children and young adults in singing and musical theatre. Throughout her years of teaching she has judged in many competitions, judging Lucy Spraggan, George Samson, amongst others who have gone onto succeed in the business.

The thing I love about Mariah is whenever she sings or remakes a cover song of another artist she definitely puts her touches on it however she’s respectful of the artist and doesn’t ever over sing the song. And she carefully places every note in the correct placement, but she brings her raw emotions into the song. I always said Mariah cries into the song and gives you much more then original song will.

This was recorded around 2000 when Tommy Mottola was trying to destroy her carrer. He put everyone she liked against her. I'm pretty sure she felt lonely and lost. We can hear a little about this in Can't Take That Away and Petals from Rainbow. So this song definitely came from deep in her soul.

Been listening and streaming to this song non-stop since the first time she released it. I already listened to the original version before, but this version really hits differently. It just sounds so pure, emotional and soulful. I really love her vocals and arrangement here. So simple, yet so effective. Not to mention this song fits her voice really well. In my opinion, this would've perfectly complemented the 'Glitter' album and if memory serves correct, it was indeed the album this track was originally assigned to. Considering the subtle similarities of 'Fame' and 'Glitter' and of course, the meaning this song encompasses in relation to 'Glitter', I have no idea what her management team was thinking by omitting it. If there's one fundamental drawback to Mariah's career, it's the many questionable albeit suspect individuals in both, her professional and personal circle over the years.

The mixing here is much better than Glitter album mixing. One thing I hate about glitter album is that her soft vocals are way too strong over the instrumental and has some kind of bass tone to them because of the wrong mixing choise

I thought Mariah's cover was *stunning*. Literally moved to tears by it. Mariah talks about bearing her soul with the song, and you really experience the connection. The vocal performance is sublime and the song fits her like a glove. Her whisper voice creates a musical fabric so tender, so intense. It's magical. Wow, she actually sounds so much younger here. It is showing as recorded in 2000 on the listings for it! Which makes sense, her voice was so much stronger back then, even if we did have dimwits in the late 90s saying she had lost her voice........Mariah's voice today is better than most of the singers in the charts. This may sound crazy but I’m almost certain that whichever version you listened to is slightly sped up. It just sounds like it’s a little faster and the pitch is just slightly higher than the original, giving it more of that squeaky sound. Idk, I might be wrong, however I’d suggest you listening to the actual single from a streaming service so you can get the full effect of her version of this beautiful song.

I am so excited to hear more songs from the vault on The Rarities. I enjoyed you talking more about some technical parts of her vocals. That is so intriguing to me. Mariah's voice was in amazing condition at this time. She gave such a beautiful and emotional performance on this song. It was not overdone at all, rather a simplicity of her effortless riffs and transitions. She didn't even include a high note anywhere!
