Unfortunately, I think choosing the path of nurturing and growing others' voices limits her in terms of 'showing off' her own -- the focus should be on her students, not herself, even if she is one of the most adept and versatile vocal technicians in a generation, not to mention meeting and exceeding all the standards of personality and appearance demanded by today's industry.

I'm pretty sure Mozart wrote "Come scoglio" for a singer he hated, not "Der Hölle Rache." Mozart wrote the Queen of the Night aria for his sister-in-law, who was known to have an amazing upper register. "Come scoglio" is the aria Tara's thinking about; Mozart wrote it for a woman he hated. She was known to raise her head on high notes and lower them on low notes, so Mozart wrote "Come scoglio" with a bunch of big leaps so that she would bob her head like a chicken. Just thought I'd mention that. Love you, Tara!

In the aftermath of the video, Lea retells her story from when she did Miss Saigon, and it goes a bit like this: “Here’s my story, because classical technique saved my life in the most literal sense. I was in miss Saigon, that’s not a secret. But my voice was starting to fail. It was slowly fading away, and I do not even know why. Because my voice never failed me in my life, but why is it that my body was rebelling against me? So, the kind-hearted producer of this show financed my education with this really good voice teacher. The first thing she said was ‘I will teach you classical technique because that is what’s going to save you, you will sing to survive. You will make it to the next show.’ That was eight shows a week. Luckily, they cut it to five, but five Miss Saigon shows in a week. That is not easy. I just wanted to share this with you, only so that I can tell another person how important that technique is, and that in your young age you already have it. That hopefully, more singers--- aspiring singers take classical songs seriously; that they should not laugh or make fun of it. I’m just happy to meet you and be able to share that with you. “
@m13laball4 жыл бұрын
Raphael John Madrid That’s so interesting that they cut it to five. I know Lea’s friend Monique was her alternate in the show. Nowadays the lead Kim does 6 shows and an alternate does 2, as do other vocally challenging roles like Christine in Phantom and Eva in Evita.

A really good story that really underlines why people like Tara are so important, especially since Tara gives so much advice for free. Even Lea Salonga needed help, and she accepted help. I bet the artists Tara's critiqued liked hearing Tara's little notes and recommendations and I hope the fans that get a little offended on their behalf realize that people like Tara are the reason their favorite artists only get better and are saved from burning out. Thanks for retelling (and translating) her story for Tara and everyone else that's here.

Hi Tara 😊! The first "Queen of the Night" was Josefa Hofer, she was a sister-in-law of Mozart, and from little I could find out about her some time ago, she had a very rich song register, which Mozart knew and appreciated, hence why he wanted her for the "Queen of the Night". Would have loved to hear her sing that aria 😍! Oh, and, btw, would love to hear *you* sing this aria, your voice is so beautiful 💕! Love and best wishes from Germany 😘!

I love Queen of the Night, so when she took the breath the first time I thought something was off, so I'm glad you pointed out it. I'm surprised you said nothing about how big she had her mouth open towards the end. Secondly, what the heck Tara?! How dare you sit there and make such a difficult song look so trivially easy. I think I disagree that she didn't have to take a breath in those places, they were the wrong places, but she took a breath in them because she had to, since it's clear she didn't take the breath when she needed to earlier. When you take a proper deep breath early on, then you can finish the phrase without cutting it off. before the last word. Nobody actually wants to stop singing to take a breath, trust me. You just have to plan went to take the breaths better.
