I'm from Siberia and I adore these guys. Among their musical instruments is a flute made of human bone. And the name of the group means "a place where warriors lay down their weapons and negotiate," another meaning is "a sacred place of power." Greetings from Siberia.😉

The people of Yakutia speak an ancient Turkic language that forms the basis of Turkish. Most people in the world may not know this, but Yakuts, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, Azerbaijanis, Hungarians and many other ethnic groups come from the same roots. They are all Turkic communities and their languages are very close, regular and the basic words are exactly the same. Despite this, their images, religions and beliefs have differed. Because the Turks are a nation that cannot stand still and has spread around the world and established many states.@@0lga_gal

I first saw this video a year ago and was blown away. I adore the drums (especially after the break in the middle), and the drummer gal who owns the beat. They are visually stunning and so different. It's a treat to see a bit of their country. Genesis is my favorite Otyken song/video; the giant heads are so fun. I've loved ethnic music since I was a kid. It doesn't take much for your ear to welcome a different kind of sound. It was great to see you sharing your reaction and spreading the word about this terrifically talented group. :)

Each nation is unique in its own way. OTYKEN ( translates as "a place where warriors lay down their weapons and negotiate" or "a sacred place of power") is a folk group consisting of different nationalities, but being representatives of small-numbered taiga peoples. The authors write lyrics in Russian, Chulym and Khakass languages. The band was supposed to perform at the opening of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. But at the last moment, the European Sports Committee banned Russian residents from attending the event, and the performance was canceled. It would be interesting to see your reaction to a Russian folk song kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2amYoCkiq-Jq7M

Such truth you are saying and most people don't get that. Mainstream music is not cool anymore. Music like metal, or things more traditional are gaining terrain due to people realizing this is the best music among all. This is the reason why a lot of metal japanese bands are so relevant nowadays, bands like Otyken, The Who, Bloodywood, and traditional music from Asia and middle east, also.

"Storm" is the first OTYKEN song that I heard, and I fell in love with the group instantly. Her vocals, though not what Westerners would consider "professional", actually struck a chord within me, and I ended up adoring the sheer primal emotional energy that she has put into this (and most of her other) performances. The lead throat singer is also astoundingly amazing at his craft; those notes he hits in this song are incredible. Believe it or not, you are one of the few reviewers I have watched that actually appreciated the same things I have in OTYKEN. In this, I have become even more impressed with you as a person. So irritating to hear people say, "She's just screaming", while completely missing how much emotion and effort she put into those notes. Also, just in case you have not yet heard these two songs of theirs, "Genesis", and "White Mountain", I highly recommend them for you to listen to. "White Mountain" is so relaxing that you might even miss the inclusion of a Saxophone in the instrumentals; plus, it has become my go-to song for practicing overtones. EDIT: I was reluctant to include the song 'Paradise Lost", though it is such a wonderfully emotional song, as I wondered if someone who wasn't of indigenous descent would appreciate the weight of this song. I decided to go ahead and list it as another "must listen" just to appreciate their point of view more. The song is about a displaced people's sorrow at losing their homeland and their culture. If you decide to watch that video, please turn on the English subtitles as they are at least decent enough to convey the message OTYKEN is singing. Thank you.

I watched a video with the singer Azyan. These people are very much real and her people number maybe 200. They are beekeepers which you will see in some of the videos. Azyan does not like being away from her home too much and large cities with throngs of people she does not know. She listens to the winds and speaks with the trees. The newest video called Phenomenon is a much more well produced and like this song is backed by some modern instruments. They definitely have lighting enhancements with a professional director working with them.

The transition from a light kinda funk beat to jungle base tone, with the kumi-daiko style drums around 2:20 really lands for me. Ötüken (or Otukan, Otugan, Otyken) was a capital city of the Turkic Khaganate which existed in the 1st millenium AD. It was located on the territory of modern Mongolia. Also it seemingly means a sacred "place of power" for Turks, something like "Shambala" for Indo-Europeans :) I found some info here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otuken

You are mistaken, this is not happening in Chile...yes, they are similar to the people of Peru in the same way that if you go back to the history of the Ice Age, then these peoples moved across the strait between Alaska and Russia.

The mistake is in the footnotes, not Beth's statement. The ethnic group is the Chulyms which presumably the ? autogenerator mistook for Chilean.
