Systur: Sigga, Beta and Elín are a band of sisters who have been singing together for as long as they can remember.
The girls previously assembled a group named after their beloved grandmother, Sísí Ey; scoring a huge hit in Iceland with the song, Ain’t Got Nobody.
Their father, Eythor, was a member of the legendary jazz-funk band, Mezzoforte, who scored a UK number 17 hit in 1983 with the song Garden Party. Their mother, Ellen, is also a singer, and their brother (also named Eythor) will join them on stage playing drums.
The three siblings believe strongly in the healing power of music and spend much of their time supporting those who are marginalised in society. In recent years, they have focused their activism on trans children’s rights, and are deeply involved with the local community.

This song actually has one of the very best lyrics of the year when you actually get what they mean. Is also a massive grower and one of the best songs this year, a pitty how underrated it is.

I love this song, but people don't seem to be responding to it, so I don't think it will do well. Still, the perfect music to work or craft to.

My personal favourite though, tied with Sweden. Really like Belgium too this year, but I'm from there, so I might be biased.

Here's a little quote from one of the sisters: "During the winter months in Iceland we loose alot of daylight. Days get darker and longer and in the darkest winter months we only get sunlight a small part of the day. But from around December 20th the sun starts to come earlier and set later each day. We have the saying for this period for the sun as being "með hækkandi sól" that could translate to "with the sun getting higher each day". Originally it was written as a point of view from a 18th or 19th century icelandic woman who was in 'Vistarband'. The Icelandic vistarband was a requirement that all landless people be employed on a farm. Poor people did not really have any control of their lives and were forced to work for others and live under their rule. But the lyrics can also be related to anyone in many and all sorts of situations. Seeing some hope with the sun getting higher and days getting warmer." It's a very pretty and warm song, and while I don't expect it to do well in eurovision it might catch some by surprise, who knows?

Idk why but this song reminds me of the old eurovisions. The sound and the set up. It's so good

I love that... "are they sisters?"... I suppose the "y" in 'Systur' (sisters) throws englishspeakers off LOL... but they kind'a should have been called 'Systkin' (siblings) as the guy on the dums is their brother.

The y doesn't throw me and my music loving friends off and we are English. It obviously means 'sisters'.. Its a truly beautiful song regardless of its relatively low vote. I love it as did my nephew.

Here is a translation of the lyrics to English. Undercurrents sweep the heart All but covered in deep wounds of sorrow A deep longing burns within Lies in hiding - come what may - Hush hush In the twilight you can see beautiful freedom moving closer As the night sky drowns The day torn by words No one can say - Hush hush The darkest winter, waits for the sun To ease away the longest nights - with light The darkest winter, waits for spring To warm our embraces again Darkness of winter closing in Forcing every single breath they take With growing hope for brighter days The ice and shadows will give way - Hush hush The darkest winter, waits for the sun To ease away the longest nights - with light The darkest winter, waits for spring To warm our embraces again She rises to the sky Embracing her own power And along the way Finding a sense of peace The darkest winter, waits for the sun To ease away the longest nights - with light The darkest winter, waits for spring To warm our embraces again

I've read about the lyrics and as far as I've understood the song talks about the long winter season in Iceland when the days are very short, which is very difficult for the people living there. The song talks about when the sun cames finally in the summer season. Of course it'll be someone who'll explain it better than me hahahahahh Greetings from Spain Georgina!

Love your reactions ❤️ I actually like this song, it’s not typical Eurovision but I like that. Do y’all remember Calm after the Storm from the Netherlands in 2014? A slow pop/country song, everyone expected it to do medium, turned out it got 2nd, after Rise Like A Phoenix! Dont overlook this one.

the winter season is a hard one for the mental state for many... in the winter solsters the sunlight is only 4 hours! so the meannin of the saying "hækkandi sól" is the days are getting longer and more brigtness is coming towords us, phisicly and mentaly. you can probably translate this saying like "there are brighter days ahead" aww the hope in this saying just warms my hart

May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, & a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, & his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin. Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, & the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today and please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?

Um... I have the chorus for this... The darkest winter will see the sun, Warming up our hearts with light - with glee! The darkest winter will be gone by spring, As it flows through your smooth wings. Bridge: Further on she flies, Up to the highest mountains, Greatest goal achieved - She's found her inner peace! Last!Chorus The darkest winter will see the sun, Warming up our hearts with light - with glee! The darkest winter will be gone by spring - Spread out your wings and... be free.🥰

I've said it once and gonna say it forever. This song wasn't a winner. This song was a warm reminder about the spring sun coming. It was there to stay with us and be a reminder the winter will eventually end.

Hi hi, loved your opinion on this. 😊 I'm Icelandic and don't know the real meaning behind the lyrics but listening to it, in my opinion, it's about hope. I love the rithym in the song and even though the winter is dark, the Sun will shine again. Lovely sisters 💝

It's using the lengthening of daylight after winter solstice as a metaphor for an inner light and happiness budding, taking root, and prevailing over the darkness of winter, with a running theme of imagry of the sun on wings, warming them to take flight.
