Derek's solos are REAL soloing, not practiced routines. You could go see them a hundred times and never hear Derek play the same solo twice. He's just riffing through whatever mood happens to strike him at the time.

I am one lucky man. I live 7 miles south of Red Rocks and get to hear this great band every year on my birthday! The last weekend of July is when they come into RR every year. They are so big at RR that 5-6 years ago they expanded a single night gig to a two night date, and they sell out both in a couple hours. Not only are they both so unbelievably talented, they are truly very nice, kind people. When COVID hit, Derek and Susan kept the band's salaries at the same level as if they were touring. They took the financial hit, not their band. I once complemented Derek's playing on this very song on their band's website. The first time I heard it was at RR on a lovely Colorado night. It was simply magic. I said that it sounded like Ravi Shankar's sitar, a feat that I've never heard a slide player even attempt. A couple hours later, none other than Derek himself replied and thanked me for the complement. If you want to really understand how dynamic Susan's voice is, watch the YT video of her doing Etta James' "I'd Rather Go Blind," when President Obama had blues night at the White House. She does a duet on it with Warren Haynes, Derek's old buddy from TABB. She knocks it completely out of the park, and then down the street. They are simply fantastic.

This was a very special iteration of their band. It should be pointed out that the bass player is Oteil Burbridge who played with the Allman Brothers Band alongside Derek and currently tours with Dead & Co. Definitely worth checking him out, an amazingly talented bassist as well as a beautiful singer who happens to have perfect pitch. The angel on the organ is Oteil's brother Kofi Burbridge who tragically passed in 2019 and was an amazing multi-instrumentalist. Derek's solo on this tune makes me tear up every time I hear it, it is quite literally perfect. I can also attest to Susan being a truly lovely human. I had the pleasure of seeing the Allman Brothers at the Beacon in NYC while sitting on the stage thanks to a good friend. Sitting directly in front of me was Susan and their then 2 year old kid who spent the whole show facing backwards dancing for us and giggling. Susan could not have been nicer that night. At the time I had not really listened to her music I only knew she was married to Derek. I am now a huge fan of them both.

Thank you for mentioning Kofi. Viewing this beautiful song combined with the fact that Kofi is no longer with us brings me to tears. A little sad that this person didn't comprehend his importance to the band and at least acknowledge him. Kofi has been with Derek for about 20 years when he passed. It almost ended this band, as described in a PBS video about them. Bless you, Kofi, for the goodness you brought us...

Hi Beth, I've seen the Tedeschi Trucks band a couple times in concert and they are definitely one of the best current live bands. Derek Trucks played with the Allman Brothers Band for many years (he is the nephew of their drummer Butch Trucks) and he is arguably the best living slide guitarist on the planet. Susan Tedeschi (who is from my home state of Massachusetts) is also one of the best female blues/soul/R&B vocalists I've heard (and a pretty good guitarist).

Travelled to Glasgow last November to see their first gig in Scotland, and my first time seeing them too. Absolutely spellbinding. Their pedigree is impeccable, their vibe is really great. 12 musicians on stage, all at their peak from years of touring extensively. In all probability one of the premier touring acts in the world. Trucks is absolutely one of the premier exponents of slide guitar ever. Stints with the Allman Brothers at a young age cemented his pedigree early on. Susan is and was a premier artist in her own right. The couple were married for 10 years before they decided to merge their separate touring acts into this ensemble. The band are like an extended family.

You completely got it. It is amazing to hear someone verbalize what this band has been about from day one. When they combined musical forces, Derek wanted to create a space for Susan to sing, plain and simple. The entire band (they have had some personnel changes since this early performance.) is organized around Susan's voice. Your description of what you think their shows are like is spot on too. @@travissmith9451 Yeah, I didn’t know that. I saw Gregg perform shortly before he died. I seem to have a long history of seeing many just weeks or months before they die. It started with Elvis a couple of months before he died and recently includes Dr. John and Johnny Winter. Time marches on, I guess.

Susan Tedschi's voice is warm and smooth. If you were to listen to her performance at the Orpheum, when she performs I Pity the Fool (Live) the difference would knock your socks off! She is Texas RoadHouse Blues!

Derek Trucks is a virtuoso on slide guitar. Top of the rung. His pitch control is perfect. An amazing player since he was a kid.

There are multiple versions of this song on KZbin. In some of them, when Derek goes into his solo, Susan just looks at him and smiles.

I watched Derek play at Skippers in Tampa Florida back in the day when he was 13 years of age. I knew then he would become another guitar legend which he is on his way to being! He took over the lead guitar/Slide position of Duane Allman in the The Allman Brothers Band. He not only replicated it but mastered it into his style that has today! Susan Tedeschi has a soulful voice on the likes of Bonnie Raitt and some. Both of these ladies made a mark in music with their unique styles. ✌

I had the unexpected pleasure of seeing Susan Tedechi, Buddy Guy, and BB King at the Raleigh, NC Amphitheater about 20 years ago. My soul was both at peace and joyous that evening. And my date and I danced the night away in the aisle. ❤

Saw the Trucks Tedeshi Band with B.B. King before he passed. Easily one of the best musical performances I've ever been to. Even at his advanced age, B.B. still had it. Great video!

I first saw Derek play when he was 12 yrs old! Several yrs later, in the late 90’s, I owned a Blues Club in the same Ontario Canada city. I was lucky enough to book a young Susan Tedeschi! I’ve been such a fan ever since. Their musical pedigree’s are exceptional. Susan reminds me a lot of Bonnie Raitt’s tone, phrasing and delivery. Peace

Hey Beth, I’ve watched them play this on several videos and love, love, LOVE this song. So when I heard they were playing at Byron Bluesfest 2024, I immediately bougjt tickets. I was fearful they might not live up to reputation. Couldn’t have been more wrong. They far exceeded my expectations. Absolutely sublime! If I ever get the chance to see them again, I’m there. OMG, they are the most complete band I’ve ever seen ❤
