Meg is one of my favorite drummers. She isn’t the best, at all, but she is always solid and sits so deep in the pocket no matter the tune. Something about the simplicity of her playing just gets me.

Not trying to be fresh. I am curious. What does that expression, sits in the pocket, mean. I've heard people use it before.
@cydrych
@cydrych Жыл бұрын
@@tristramcoffin926 it’s holding the beat steady and providing the rhythm for the song. Since there isn’t a bass guitar to fill out a “rhythm section” it all falls on the drummer. In many other bands the drummer can do crazy syncopated fills and not have to worry as much about changing the timing because the bass player can stay in the pocket. The same is true the other way around. I hope that explains it for you.

She's a perfect example of KISS (keep it simple stupid) drummer, can't go wrong, keeps the beat, having to emphasise due to no bass. I love it

Not to mention her genuinely unorthodox approach to her drum parts. She plays in such a unique way that most other drummers wouldn’t think to play. Even Taylor Hawkins (RIP) acknowledged that she was a badass and he struggled to replicate her “simple” drum beats but he couldn’t because of how unique she would play. Long story short Meg is the shit and nobody will change my mind.

I hold Jack White in high esteem. He rescued the Detroit Masonic Temple from being sold for back taxes. My daughter had her wedding scheduled there so we followed this financial trouble fairly closely in case we had to change venues. The DMT owed a substantial amount in back taxes and Jack White paid them in full. The City of Detroit promptly “lost” his payment, now the DMT is an iconic building with stunningly beautiful architecture inside and out. It is located a block from the Detroit Red Wings arena owed by the Illitch family. It has been speculated that the payment was lost so that the DMT would be sold for a relatively small sum, compared to its true value. After the situation was brought to light in local news media and a large public outcry ensued the payment was found. The Detroit Masonic Temple is the largest in the world and has a long history in Detroit. It is well worth researching some of that history. As a gesture of thanks and respect the DMT named the largest of the three theaters in the building The Jack White Theater. Thank You Jack White for saving the Detroit Masonic Theater for the original owners.

I actually never knew about the "Salvation Army" part. LOL. And reportedly Meg White is SUPER shy and wanted nothing to do with the spotlight. She and Jack were happy to let people believe they were brother and sister becuase that way they wouldn't need their actual relationship to be up for public discussion.
