Thanks a lot for this. As nice as it is to hear reactors talk about my favourite bands, it's so much better to make a new discovery. I'll definitely be listening more to these guys.

A really wonderful mix of genres and traditions. I absolutely loved it and now, I need to look for more of Tinariwen's music. Thank you for making me aware of them.

I bought the album a few years back. Amazing. Btw, that Gibson SG's tone with distortion is perfect. It's so raw.

If i remember correctly, the older men putting the headwraps (I cant remember what theyre called) on the younger musicians were actually the original band members. And by putting it on them, they were symbolically passing on the torch to them to take up the bands name

This was beautiful, I have several desert blues albums, it is a very accessible music genre. You should look at Gurrumul Yunupingu, his music is jaw droppingly beautiful.

For anyone looking for more desert blues I would recommend Ali Farka Toure, Bombino and Modu Moctar.

Hi Beth. Could you react to the Music "Drao" by Gilberto Gil. It has so deep meaning: 1. "Drao" was the nickname of his ex wife. And rhimes with "grão" (seed in english) 2. It talks about how much fellings can change over time (he wrote the song while he was going through a divorce) 3. "Cama de Tatame" is about the bed he used to lay with his then wife. They where exiled from the country while in the military dictatorship, and used to sleep in a bed close to the ground (meaning a modest way of living)

Great Song! Thank you for sharing this. My I suggest „Between two points“ from David Gilmour sung by Romany Gilmour. I think this would fit well into your channel.

For more world-music crossover stuff, I highly recommend "Dengue Fever". They mix traditional Cambodian vocals and melodies with an unique style of pop/rock and surf music. Great unique band. "Lost in Laos (Live Groupee Session)" would be a good starting point.

Addressing world music is a great thing to be doing. Back in the day I listened to a lot--I was introduced to it by artists like Peter Gabriel, and then followed those artists on into a whole new musical world. So maybe 7 Seconds by Neneh Cherry and Youssou N'Dour ? Two very different voices to compare and contrast.

There is no such thing as "world music". This is an ethnocentric, patronizing language from the USA and western Europe to refer to... music. Music made by people that you don't see as just people just like you are. "World music" has absolutely no concrete meaning.
@blortmeister23 сағат бұрын
@@vachelliacaven9651 I do understand your point here. In my defence, I do use the term as in "music from the rest of the world" ie music I don't get to hear and don't always know where it comes from, and yes, music from outside my culture. My ear isn't well trained enough to distinguish music by an artist from Mali and one from Niger, or Slovakian from Polish. When I do know where it is from, I'll say "This great Indonesian traditional music" or "This great artist from Guam". As, I assume, listeners in those countries describe music from Canada's indigenous First Nations when they hear it. Taxonomically, sometimes we lump and sometimes we split. I hope I'm conveying that while I agree that "world music" is basically meaningless, sometimes we do need fuzzy shorthand to describe more complex realities.

Lastima tu falta de inteligencia y tu poco aprecio por la música de Latinoamérica... Eso q la mayoria de los videos de musica de Latinoamérica son de los mas vistos.
