Timo with due respect - you got analysis paralysis - I have watched at least a dozen voice coaches watch Stan sing this song and all have been blown away right from the start - there is nothing "dark"about any part of this song in my opinion. All of it is deeply uplifting. I suggest you listen to the entire song without stopping - with headphones on - listen to all parts - backup singers are stellar in their own right as are the band musicians.

Thanks for this, I enjoyed your technical analysis. Stan is iconic in New Zealand because he elicits emotion from the listener. His voice is incredible but his ability to connect is beyond any learned ability 💖

Totally agree his ability to express himself is incredible and on top of that with such ease. 😀

Oh. You really haven't listened to Stan Walker. He often hits those high notes on many songs. Also, he's a cancer survivor and had his stomach removed. Prior to that, his range was much wider.
@timoparker8 ай бұрын
It was my first time listening to him. What a great performance!🎤

Thanks for your analysis! : ) I think the distortion in Stan's voice may have increased over time. I don't think of it as a flaw, just as a textural feature. It's quite omnipresent in some of his songs. (I think some people call this 'vocal fry'?) Stan's voice changed and got a bit higher after his stomach was removed about 7 years ago (due to cancer). I think he had to relearn how to sing (to some extent) after that operation. Another song Stan song it could be interesting for you to listen to is 'Amazing Grace' (live with the Levites).

I listened to him critique the whole reel. He does make quite a lot of judgement calls and stops frequently but his overall discussion is on the technicality of how Stan is using his pipes. I don't feel like he is demeaning Stan but he is a voice coach focussed on the technical use of the actual body parts and how they function together. He also praises the band, the Levites and Stan. Watch the whole reaction ❤ Informative reaction 🙏

He most certainly has been on one hell of a journey through a tough start to life of abuse, heart ache, death and grief, massive health complications and to come out stronger Happier and healthier with his Faith stronger than ever! He truly is a gift from the heavens and I'm sure he will continue to inspire us through his music. Check out Amazing Grace from Stan wakker kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKPRloughtOcma8

His Technique Is Culturally Based.. In Our Culture We Use Our Whole Body To Produce Sound ..Histotically We Are A Ppl Of Oral Tradition Ohh And His Natural "Rasp?" Its His Signature Sound... Not A Flaw😂 But Hey?? The Proof Is In The Pudding🤣

...everything STAN sings is deliberately done its not second guessed, hes a singer that sings outside himself and there are not alot of singers who are able to do that naturally, you will actually find that alot of singers from AOTEAROA sing that way, it not something thats taught, but rather something that they are instinctively born with 😉👌
