When I heard this performance it blew me away! Disturbed's version is awesome, and Henk took it to the next level. His voice is so powerfull, you could light a house :P Love your reactions!! 👏

Henk was very nervous about doing this, and it was his first time doing distortion. So he did indeed leave his comfort zone.

Apparently it was actually Floor Jansen who taught him distortion during rehearsals.

Henk chose to do the Disturbed version of this song because it is Floor's favorite. I think it shows respect to Floor to go out of his comfort zone for her............ :-)

It’s not only Floor’s favourite version, it’s also a heavy metal version. And we all know Floor is the queen of metal :-). Since distortion is a big no no in opera, he really stepped out of his comfort zone doing this for Floor. He said that he learned the technique in two hours and he was very nervous about it. Yet he did absolutely great.

Henk did take singing lessons here but within 2 hours he had mastered it. Normally he doesn't sing as he does now. But so beautiful and he also used this technique in the duet with Floor. Simply sparkled away. A Henk Poort that really steps outside of its comfort.

When I suggested this reaction I was convinced you already did Disturbed version of Sound of silence, I should've checked first. Great reaction, anyways, you always highlight the most important things. Henk indeed is a baritone, who was trained to sing like tenor. I love when male and female singers with deep voices blast the upper register, because it always sound so rich and powerful. I'm contralto, so I'm little biased :D

Thank god for subtitles, because your channel is very interesting and i'm happy i have found it. I do believe you are the first vocal coaches to actually mention his use of distortion being against Opera rules, eventho i kind of disagree with those rules, i mean.. you have seen and heard the Phantom, and if that isnt a song, that gets stronger thanks to the distortion, then i dont know which song would. So Opera needs to revise its rules and make exceptions for certain songs hehehe. And you ask for other Henk Poort songs? simple answer, check them all out, the songs he sings in Dutch wont matter, you'll feel them, and one of the two, you will know the English version of. Even his "least best" song, is still a joy to watch and listen to because its so not him, and yet he makes it work, cant really explain, gotta see it, that song is Despacito, and all the other songs he did, are all better and more up his ally, so if you really want to see Henk outside his comfort zone, Despacito is where to start. And when you get to "Your Man" you will probly think the same as many others, "are we sure this man wasnt born in Nashvile?" because its almost as if he belongs in country... Either way, any of his songs will make you happy, for different reasons :) Ty for the great reaction and information, i always enjoy the extra information given by vocal coaches, and you two give a lot of good and interesting information :)

I wish the people who requested that is asked you to watch David Draiman sing it first. Henk did not change the arrangement as you stated here , he's singing the cover done by David Draiman of the disturbed. He did a good job of singing David Draiman's version here. Though it still doesn't quite match it for me.
