I had a singer who asked me for a dynamic microphone to hold in his hand while recording with the studio microphone. Thus he could perform better, being used to singing a lot live. You will meet all kinds of singers, each different and with different requirements. It is very important that the singer can connect with the song to give his best. you have to be willing to help him with that.

Absolutely! I’ve had that happen many times before

What dynamic did you give him? I'm a big fan of the SM7B.

Maybe someone needs to invent a helmet with a mounted SM7 to it ;)

This is actually genius.

Haha indeed! Might present more issues than it fixes! Fun idea though

Mic capsule up towards the nose and capturing nasal sound is what I struggled and learned late... I agree totally. Better put towards the chin so it can capture the chest voice as well

Some people like to turn the mic off-axis…I’ve never liked that. I’ve always liked to speak directly in front of the mic whether I was 3 inches away, 6 inches away, or 9. People don’t understand how high quality mic cables, gain, distance, and other minor things can make huge differences in the end. Even turning off the a/c, tv, and refrigerator. Yep…that’s me.

I’m so big on mic position and placement. Even the gain of the mic. All this before post is important. I don’t like to be right up on the mic…but not too far back. I always listen to my voice as I’m recording and not just relying on fixing everything in post. Get a great foundation and it makes post much smoother. Certain preamps and mics have a sweet spot and I listen for these things. Even the mic placement in the room…I’ll initially turn my preamp mic gain up higher than normal so I can hear all of the nuances that could later become a problem in post…and eliminate them as much as possible neither the actual recording.

Thank you 🙏. That's what I do. Some people angle the capsule up toward the mouth or down toward the mouth. What is your perspective on that, Warren?

there's one thing i care about in videos: when someone showes something with his hands and the hand is out of frame. vertical video is not the always the best format... just saying.

Hey Warren! Any thoughts on having the mic upside down vs. Regular position?
@300Spartan032 ай бұрын
I just have to ask cause I've always wondered but never asked. What does setting a microphone upside do?
@mar.pequen2 ай бұрын
Upside down? Fast answer: Does nothing, its the same, long answer: maybe you can create a better angle from putting the mic upside down, also it can allow to set the mic stand in a non-intrusive way. Also if you want to match capsule postition with another mic, maybe the best position for one of the mics is upside down

@@mar.pequen thank you my good sir. I can see when pairing it with another mic would make sense for sure.

It's done to free up floor space for the singer to move their arms and feel free and less confined. Hanging it from the ceiling freeze up floor space

I don't like that sound most of the time, i'll position the mic a little bit higher than the mouth and angle i down to the chest. That way you get clarity of speech and volume of the body.
