One of the main details that make Tom's scratch so realistic is the slight whistle he does. Kinda like the tuvan throat singing. At 2:09 you can hear it if you pay close attention. It adds that "electronic-ish" sound to it. Also, the note he ends the scratch in is another good detail. 1:54 is the perfect example. It gives the listener the idea that a sample is being repeated.

This is insane, i started practicing this not long ago, probably a week or two max, i've been using mb14 as a base to figure out what to do, after watching this i realized i was on a good path, which made me glad; but it also made me realize how much more i can do to work this out, that one-two-three-four at the start is a such a perfect practice example on how to go about this. The fact that it is just now that i start with this after two years beatboxing and at the same time this video is uploaded, is all just too gratifying, i highly thank you for this tutorial, i'm really looking forward to learn this and will give me my best to have it fully down in the next months (usually i would say weeks, but i want to really settle this one down), it's too amazing that a human being can do all this crazy stuff, and i love the fact this is a thing. Once more i thank you for your work, though you were not my main inspiration, i definitely have you at a high esteem, and loved to watch your videos when i started. Really hope you read this, keep up the awesome work!

I'm constantly trying vocal scratching while working. I do a lot of driving so there's amply time to spend practicing. And every so often I begin to feel as though I'm getting better and maybe even sounding somewhat good. That is until I click on any of Tom Thum's videos. Im instantly brought back down to Earth and the very low level where I reside in reality. I suck so bad when compared to what he can do. It's laughably pathetic. Tom Thum is truly a master of his craft. And even though I'm always humbled by his videos to the point where it can be frustratingly annoying that he's so good, I sure wish he had a lot more out there to watch. Because I've seen them all.......multiple times.

Thanks Tom Thum. I liked the phonetics bit and the breakdowns sylable style. I have been beatboxing since 2005 and I do a chewi scratch with a vocal tonality to it than change the notes and scratch a melody. Great explains keep rockin!
