These exercises have been very helpful after my thyroid was removed after diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I still can't sing and as well as I once did prior to surgery but my voice has improved. I'm going to continue the progression to smaller and smaller straws with hopes my voice continues to improve. Thank you so much for the video.

Your vid was recommended to me by my vocal therapist after a cyst was removed from my vocal cords. I still have a month and a half before she thinks I'll be ready to get loud 😂, but I'm a little further along because I hum all the time. The cyst was in the very spot where I move into high pitches, so she says i must give myself time, but it's scary. Doing the exercises with you, albeit much lower tones, has really given me hope that i can retrain my high pitch voice.

@yahushandawid Honestly, a bit disappointed with how long it takes, but I do hear and feel a good difference. Plus, my doctor has had to put my post-op check-up off twice, so I can't start re-training. Thank you for asking. I wish I could say I was a rapid miracle case, but I think I'm a typical case that will take what it takes. Lol

@WideCuriosity
@WideCuriosity 8 ай бұрын
As I, a total amateur, understands it, different pitches will need different resonant chambers, so lower ones will be in chest area, while higher ones are using various chambers in the head. However these exercises are more about breath control so you need not be so concerned for this particular tuition. Just try to get the results demonstrated.

@@WideCuriosity Ok, i understand. Thanks for answering me! Do you know, if diaphragmatic breathing exercises really help for a low voice? If the answer is yes, 1) is there an estimated time to know the results? 2) Is the effect achieved permanent or only lasts for a few days/hours? Thanks

@jaymiller3238
@jaymiller3238 11 ай бұрын
Your instincts are correct. If you’re struggling with the smaller diameter of straw, you need to use a larger diameter for a bit longer. Smaller straws have more benefit, but you can’t start with smaller straws because your voice isn’t efficient enough at the early stages. Work with a larger straw for another week or two, then try something slightly narrower. (A coffee straw might be too much of a leap.) Remember you’re always looking for a sense of ease. It’s okay to feel some resistance, but you shouldn’t feel like you’re fighting against the straw. Be patient and just enjoy the exercise while your voice develops. The size of the straw isn’t everything.

I’m not sure how much the general public is going to be able to relate to the goal of vocal production being in the mask, especially when you say things like feeling the voice coming from the eyes…confusion from too much specific information which is geared toward people who study vocal production can lead to frustration and disinterest.
