It's funny how things just click at different times. I feel like this is something I knew but never practiced, and suddenly it has become the most helpful piece of advice for me. Watching this just peeled a HUGE layer off of that onion.

Oh yes he does. If you took his talking out you can tell just by listening to his singing. His pitch and technical command are excellent.
@BBQJester13 жыл бұрын
Summary: You use compression to get vocal stability so that you can hit the notes without putting pressure onto your larynx. But too much compression produces unwanted noises, what he was explaining were techniques to use minimal compression to produce different tones.

hamper diaper I don't smoke or drink. Are you saying that one can't benefit from learning singing techniques if they do happen to smoke and/or drink? That doesn't seem right now does it.
@xTHExCOPYx9 жыл бұрын
hamper diaper "Sing well" is subjective, if a raspy smokery sound is what your going for then smoking is great. There has been and still are, countless singers who smoke and drink, some of the most legendary singers have been smokers and drinkers, not to mention drug users. Being a good singer and smoking aren't mutually exclusive, there are plenty of singers who smoke and drink that are more skilled than those who don't, and vice versa. I feel like you are one of those people that have an agenda against smoking and/or drinking?

Yeah, but Jesse.. I have a question.. please answer! You're a Tenor right.. and I'm a baritone! If I want to sing everything relaxed, I have to jump to falsetto/head voice around an F ! and when I do that, I have NO power at all, and I reveal that it's falsetto/head voice instantly! My chest voice is VERY powerfull, and my head/falsetto voice is not (in this register). I can "power scream" and sing opera in higher range with falsetto/head voice, but not around the break! how can I get powerfull?

After 12 years of singing of which 5 years have been a battle to find out why i cant sing i finnaly realized my biggest problem was COMPRESION! The problem was that my head was filled with so much theory and allot of wrong theory about singing and the constant idea in my head that singing should be absolutly effortless and with 0 strain that i always felt that any compresion was mistaken by my brain as strain. It litterly took me years to find out for myself that compression is not strain. Sigh.

Question... In my regular chest voice I can hit up to middle C. Using some form of compression, I seem to be able to get to the C above that, without breaking into falsetto/head voice. I can pass smoothly from chest into head voice below the middle C and work my way up higher, but I can't seem to transfer from this above-chest compressed voice into head voice. The compressed voice doesn't hurt though, or even feel strained really, but it really resonates. I was wondering what exactly I'm doing?
