Thanks for giving the top notes. This is out of my range by about one whole step. My top note is a F#/Gb. Also, I had no trouble at all with the lowest notes (probably an F3?). I must be a true alto, but I will use this to stretch! Thanks. 😲 🎶

Wooww.. I'm in choir (I'm grade 7) and I did this test on youtube for my voice a while ago today and my highest note came to D5 and my lowest, F3 so it said i was Alto... So I searched up some tutorials/warm ups and this was the first one I found. This is the best singing warm up I've ever found. My voice feels like its exercised! This is great, I might even do this same warm up daily! Thanks!! :)

+Zony Metsio The best thing for you to remember about breathing is your intake. You MUST have a relaxed, deep, open (yawn-like) breath in. If you are stressed in your intake it will negatively effect phonation! Make sure you do not have tongue tension when you breath in...if you do, think "uh" as you breath in. "Uh" as in summer - s"UH"mmer

The lip trills or what ever they were called, reminded my of my musical theatre class. Cause we do that and a few other warm ups. Lol we do one where we say "red leather, yellow leather, red leather, yellow leather, red leather, yellow leather, red" and we just get faster and faster. It's fun lol.

@emmagalanaki27094 жыл бұрын
Hi Zony! How have you been? Warming up does exactly that- prevent cracks and unevenness when it comes to the voice. Having a neutral/relaxed throat as well as good, straight posture with the head slightly tilted inwards towards your back (straight, neutral neck) can also work wonders. Happy singing!
@wandanowicki22679 жыл бұрын
The "kiu" is unusual vowel sound that I am not used to hearing in vocal warm ups. Can you give some guidance as to what this vowel does in terms of placement, or rather what the purpose of this sound is? is to connect with the mix area, or...? Where should I be focussing? Especially as it goes higher . Thank you.
@ktvocalstudio9 жыл бұрын
+Wanda Nowicki Of course! The Kiu exercises balances the EE to OO with a "moment before" support and stretches the vocal tract. The EE can sometimes be too bright and the OO to dark. This exercises, when done properly, helps center the sound. You will feel like you are holding the breath for a moment before you phonate the 'k.' Support is essential during the entire exercise! Keep your throat relaxed. Sometimes it helps to move the lips to a very small opening with an elongated jaw to phonate on the higher notes. (Think whistle lips.) The sound will be light but not breathy. If you need to have this position for the entire exercises it is fine. When your muscles get stronger, you won't need the extreme jaw position. The jaw position keeps the tongue from pushing back down the throat and closing off the sound. Hope this helps!
@wandanowicki22678 жыл бұрын
+Karmyn Tyler Cobb Vocal Studio Thanks for the clarification. what does phonate mean EXACTLY?
@ktvocalstudio8 жыл бұрын
To phonate means to articulate a sound and in particular when your vocal cords vibrate to make a sound. I should have said: “This exercises, when done properly, helps center the sound. You will feel like you are holding the breath for a moment before you articulate the 'k' in preparation to phonate the EE to OO.” Sorry about that. You do want to ‘think’ as if the ‘k’ is on that first pitch. In reality is doesn’t have a pitch. It is a voiceless plosive sound. Lingua-velar to be more specific. Thank you. Sometimes I have limited time to answer back. Thank you for catching that!

Looking at this I would give you midrange Alto or low Mezzo songs, but I'd have to hear you to know what style of song. I'm a soprano and I warm down to an E3 and up to a D6, but my tessitura (where it's easy in my upper range for me to sing [E5-A5] and tone of my voice says I'm a light lyric soprano and not a mezzo.

Just sing to which ever point feels the most comfortable for you and stop until the piano descends to the point that point again and resume the exercise. You're probably an alto. I'm an alto too :) so it's normal lol

it's normal. You have to use your falsetto on the higher notes. Never push your voice during warmup!
@firstlast-wg2on6 жыл бұрын
Don't just stop when you reach falsetto, falsetto is the most important vocal register, it encompasses mixed voice and head voice. Only your chest voice matters when you're wanting to sing maybe contemporary music where you're doing some chest belts.

Wow! I have been looking around for new warmups for a while and these are great! No straining, and they have really gotten me to focus my voice forward. I do have a question: do you have any suggestions and/or online exercises for working around your vocal break? As a mezzo, my break is around F#/G5 and sometimes the note squeaks out or just crackles uncontrollably. How can I stop that from happening?
@ktvocalstudio10 жыл бұрын
I would have to listen to you for a more specific diagnosis, but try this: 1) Make sure that your throat is comfortably open not forced open and your soft palette activated (lifted appropriately). 2) as you go through your break, keep your sound balanced in air pressure and medium volume. 3) Allow the frequency of the sound to resonate naturally in you nasal cavity as you go up in pitch. 4) Keep the breath flowing as evenly as you can. Imagine the breath flow aiming up through your hard palette. As always relax your jaw as you inhale and through the entire exercise. Inhale down to your core and stay connected as your frequency gets faster. Don't be afraid to show teeth on the "Ning."

Hi Karmyn. I think its very uselful for people that youre doing this video. Well, but I'm not sure whether it is completely correct. Well - my teacher was telling me all the time that I'm mezzosoprano. But to be honest, I can't imagine an alto singing that high as in this video! I agree, maybe my range is not very high or I don't know but if this is very high for me, it's extremely high for the alto! And I believe that the difference between mezzosopran and alto is quite big! It would deserve to make a special video for both of them!!! ! And, yeah, another teacher even told me that I could be a soprano, too if I studied and did it hard. Never mind. I Just want to tell you that you should think of it a little bit. Mezzosoprano is a range from g to a2 I guess. And, Karmyn, its MUCH MORE COMPLICATED THAN JUST SING. YOU HAVE TO USE YOUR HEAD TONE, BELLY AND OTHER PARTS OF YOUR BODY. HOWEVER YOU DON'T MENTION THEM HERE. ITS BAD AND IT CAN DESTROY YOUNG VOICES!! Have a nice day and thanks for your response!!!!!

Thank you so much for the great exercises and also the explanation videos! I just wanted to ask if i should change any syllables if i am using it for a more classical training, for example a "wing" instead of the "ning"or something like that? Your explanations are really great, maybe you have time for some more tutorials? Best wishes and many greetings from Austria
@ktvocalstudio3 ай бұрын
“Wing” would be perfectly fine. I created these to cover a variety of singing styles. Modifications are individual. I always recommend getting another set of ears (I.e., singing teacher or speech pathologist who focuses on singing). The consonants can be changed however the vowels were my focus. So happy these are helpful! Thank you for your comments and feedback.

Thank you for the no jibbah jabbah warm up. Just the meat and potatoes of a good warm up! Thank God I found you. Most you tube warm upas are pitches and selling and all manner of odd chatter from the people making them,. I think to myself, Gods I'd never go to them for a vocal class. LOL Perhaps ppl should start putting "pro warm ups" in the titles and add (with no B.S., and no sales pitches or random chat). It's a warm up video. HAHAHAHAHAH Yours are perfect!

when I saw everyone commenting this...I skipped to it and it was pretty easy...just make sure youre relaxed, standing straight, breathing and singing from your diaphragm.

I was told it was okay to do tongue rolls if I can't do lip trills. That's allowed, right?

Hi karmyn this is very informative, may I know the chords to use in this warm-ups. so I can practice well.
@ktvocalstudio9 жыл бұрын
JILRizal Makati It depends on the exercise. The lowest is an F3 on that chord and the highest note is during the bubble/trill exercise at a B5 during a G4 chord where the I play the 1,3,5,8,3* is played. (the * marks the octave above the previous 3). Hope that helps!
