Today I learned that a) the Kagamines were referred to as siblings in the concept art, so the concept of mirror images came a bit later down the line and b) Rin was conceptualized as slightly older than Len, even if only by a few minutes (the little circles next to their heads have the kanji for "older sister" and "younger brother" in them)

it was clear from the start with how much they look alike that they were twins (and still are for me and many other people ), sure you can make a genderbent of the other similar but it always felt too similar to simply being a coincidence to me xd and the age gap of rin older and len younger i thought it was some kind of fan headcanon lol but its cute xD love it !

Iirc the actual reason that the “mirror image” concept came along later was because people kept drawing Kagamine inc*st. The sibling concept was then removed as the staff “didn’t want to ruin the fan’s fantasies/imaginations,” 😭. The sibling hc is still widely popular among the vocaloid community though.

Everyone freaking out over how cool the Dex and Daina alts are, I feel the need to clarify that they are NOT beta designs. The actual beta concept art is the same as their final designs. The designs shown in the video were alternate artwork, made in case Dex and Daina's Fox and the Hound theme ended up falling thru. Notice how these "beta designs" are fully rendered drawings, while most of everyone else's are rough sketches? Luka's beta is only a rendered drawing because the actual concept art has never been released and that artwork was for the If Series, where Kei drew the original concept versions of the Character Vocals and they got made into standees or something.
