Some lines are told from his child spirit's point of view. "Don't leave me alone,' and 'Don't look back, hey, don't look back." That's saying how he's trying to tell himself not to look back on childhood, that's the past. He wants to focus on the present, but also feels bad for leaving his childhood behind.
