"Anak" (Filipino for child or more gender specific my son or my daughter) is a Tagalog song written by Filipino folk-singer Freddie Aguilar. It made the finals for the inaugural 1978 Metropop Song Festival held in Manila. It became an international hit, and was translated into 27 languages. The lyrics speak of Filipino family values. Inspiration and composition Freddie Aguilar left home at the age of 18 without graduating from school. His father, who had wanted him to be a lawyer, was disappointed. Freddie traveled to faraway places carrying with him only his guitar. With no one to guide and discipline him, he got into gambling. Realizing and regretting his mistakes five years later, Freddie composed "Anak", a song of remorse and apology to his parents. He went back home and asked for forgiveness from his parents, who welcomed him with open arms. After his father read the lyrics of "Anak", the two became closer. The homecoming proved timely as his father died not long after.[2] According to Felipe de Leon, Jr., an authority on Philippine music, the song was composed in a Western style but has aspects of pasyon, a form that many Filipinos can identify with. Fun fact, that arrangement is actually Sarah’s, but sarah got sick that time that they chose katrina to sing it for the concert. Less than 24 hours to actually study the arrangement since the original arrangement of that song is so different to the way she sang it

yes, the 2nd pronunciation is correct. anak means child. this arrangement is actually intended for Sarah G, who, unfortunately got sick and couldn't perform at the concert so they had to tap Katrina to sing this on short notice (24 hours). she killed it. KZ also sang this on The Singer. maybe that's where you heard it from.

@7:55 regarding about that, this OPM song has been translated in many languages since this was quite famous way back the late 70's if I'm not mistaken, it's a story of a child (anak) that disregarded the parents' advise and was lost his way in life, but the child came to his senses and find his way back home and asked forgiveness, it something like a prodigal son of some sort.

I just finished watching it again and I must say I still prefer KZ’s version. Don’t get me wrong, I love high notes and all but for this song, not so much. Kz’s version is closer to the original one’s and it stays true to the message of the song by attacking in a way it should be delivered.

You need to hear the original Anak sung and written by Freddie Aguilar, one of Philippines best folk singers . Katrina killed this but this is a different arrangement by Louie Ocampo. Anak is about a wayward/prodigal child who realized his mistakes later in life with much regret. This song is like an apology of Freddie to his parents. This is probably the most iconic song in Philippine music history that stayed relevant generation after generation. Please do listen to the original. You will like it for sure. That's not the real melody of the song "Anak/ Child" It's about a child who lost his way, became an addict in using illegal drugs and when the time he realized everything he had done he went to her mother, something like that...
