Profoundly eloquent! I thought I had entered heaven when I heard Voices8 about a month ago as well. To watch Eric Whitacre direct his heavenly piece called Sing Gently opened the door for me. You and Eric's showing us your beauty have given me hope in a broken world, as COVID strikes again! Your voices carry me into the arms of the compassion of God! Be well.

How can you sing this without shedding tears? How can anyone listen to this without thoughts of home, family, friends, eternity? Many of us did not have a perfect home life growing up, many of us have made messes of our lives and yet...and yet, the drawing, the yearning, the absolute yearning for a place called home. All I can say through my tears is a heartfelt and humble thank you.

I just heard Voces8 last night in concert near DC (11/5/23). I was afraid that in person they might not sound as good as they do in recorded sessions. But, I am happy to say that they are more impressive in live performance. Even though they must have been tired after their USA tour, as this was their last stop, they stayed around afterwards and were (seemingly) happy to sign autographs and chat a bit. What a talented and delightful group.

We were there too! It was wonderful, and without a large acoustical space to really enhance their sound, that was really impressive they still had such an impeccable blend, like an organ. The two trains rolling through town within minutes of each other thankfully didn’t ruin any of their pieces, whew! Added a comical element to the show, they pulled it off and kept their composure so well!
@chrst7346
@chrst7346 Жыл бұрын
I’ve attended several concerts of them - btw as well with several trains just passing by right before the hall‘s windows. Always splendid! I do tend to think that one of their success mysteries lies in the following : They do what they absolutely love to do and further more are able to deliver in quite extraordinary quality… so giving concerts, connect to each other musically and connect to people appreciating their doings is just the thing they want to do. -> In the end, I do belief that for them making music and giving concerts just is not „going to work“, but being blessed to get high on endorphines and adrenaline every other night, getting in the flow and having the best of possible times. that‘s what the attending public will absolutely feel at any of their concerts

Welcher Nuancenreichtum! Und jedes Lied mündet in eine so dichte Stille. Musik kommt aus der Stille, das habe ich richtig gespürt. Und so sympathische Menschen! Danke!

Having been lucky to make the experience myself, singing in several ensembles of different sizes, I can say, that what you can really feel when hearing such a brilliant octet is that „neural cloud“ in which they are (and have to be!) when performing! It’s a truly deep reaching, intimate experience, that makes clear, why music - and especially singing - has the power to heal!! With hugely respect and heartfelted regards from Wiesbaden/🇩🇪 Martin

The recording and presentation of this classic by VOCES8 is awe inspiring and gives this humble yet powerful song the exposure it truly deserves. Bravo VOCES8 for your undertaking. A masterpiece for all who listen and appreciate the power and subtleties of this song/hymn. . Lyrics by William Arms Fisher, a student of Anton Dvorak. The melody is the Largo portion of Dvorak's New World Symphony #9, and has been used frequently at funerals and other solemn events. Goin' Home (1922) Goin' home, goin' home, I'm a goin' home; Quiet-like, some still day, I'm jes' goin' home. It's not far, jes' close by, Through an open door; Work all done, care laid by, Goin' to fear no more. Mother's there 'spectin' me, Father's waitin' too; Lots o' folk gather'd there, All the friends I knew, All the friends I knew. Home, I'm goin' home! Nothin lost, all's gain, No more fret nor pain, No more stumblin' on the way, No more longin' for the day, Goin' to roam no more! Mornin' star lights the way, Res'less dream all done; Shadows gone, break o' day, Real life jes' begun. There's no break, there's no end, Jes' a livin' on; Wide awake, with a smile Goin' on and on. Goin' home, goin' home, I'm jes' goin' home, goin' home, goin' home, goin' home!

Ich assoziiere dieses Stück heute mit unserer Letzten Ewigen Heimat, die uns allen hier fehlt. Meine Eltern konnten mir seinerzeit direkt sagen, wer es komponiert hatte... Discovering this recording has been a very strange experience for me and I feel like the story is worth sharing. I would like to point out, that this was recorded in a church in Plön, a small town in northern Germany, not a place where you would expect Voces8 to go. However, I think that it is such an impossible coincidence to come across an excerpt of one of my favourite symphonies sung by the world's most perfect vocal ensemble in Plön, just a few days after me actually staying in Plön with one of our school's choirs. I went there to sing, already inspired by Voces8's artistic perfection, just to find out afterwards that they have actually been to the same small town, singing. I think the circle has closed at that point, and I believe that this must have some deeper meaning or significance still to be revealed to me.

Glad this was in my recommended videos. I'm a BIG Voctave fan and am often moved by their performances. Voces8 has been a wonderful discovery causing the same emotional response . Such great tone, articulation and pitch. Superlative arrangements and the recording engineer and choice of performance are outstanding. Thank you, so much.
