As a Belgian I am so proud of Brel. He was unique. The intensity of his performances is unmatched. But this arrangement of my favorite vocal ensemble is a real ode! Thank you very, very much!

There are so many top ensembles, but VOCES8 is the best one in my opinion! But there are fore sure some I don‘t know. It‘s incredible how perfect they sing these difficult harmonies. (they = you)

Vous entendre chanter en français est délicieux ! Votre ensemble choral est une grâce, une brise légère, une clairière lumineuse en cette époque si sombre ! Merci !

Such a beautiful arrangement! French diction is close to native (I'm French, born and raised). Can't wait to hear you live one day when the pandemic is over! Thank you for sharing your talent with everyone.

@Sarah Bailey I agree with you, it surely contributes to this (impressive) result. To answer your question, I was born in Paris but grew up in Burgundy, a region usually well known for its wines, among other things.

Simply stunning. I lost my Mum in April and she used to perform French-language songs including many by Brel. I love the light guitar accompaniment that rounds this off perfectly. Thanks for all your wonderful lockdown performances 👏👏👏

My goodness ! This is an amazing version of Jacques Brel's classic song. I wonder what he would have made of it. Thanks for reviving it and I hope Brel might get a new audience. The text evokes the flat flat flat landscape and seascape of Belgian Flanders with its low clouds and cold northerly winds but in the last verse it turns to Summer and the warmth of southerly breezes and fields of wheat but whatever the weather, this is "the flat land that is my home" (Le plat pays qui est le mien). When Brel sings it that last verse brings the song to life and warmth evoking how much he loves his homeland. As do we all, no doubt. Très bien chanté Voces8! Avez-vous d'autres chansons françaises pour nous?

Well to remember the bitter irony of this song, when Flanders was becoming much less hospitable to the francophone, and families like Brel's with roots in West Flanders sought refuge in Brussels. The language politics of Belgium are complicated.
