@@sbar.mcdan.25 It's in the description. TRANSLATION My heart always wanders To the birthplace of our Lord. All my thoughts are gathered there In their purest sum. There, my longing finds its home There is the treasure of my faith. I can never forget you, O blessed Christmas night! O come, Lord! I will open my heart and my mind And full of longing sigh: “Comest thou in, Jesus!” That home can be no strangerTo you, who made it free. So surely you will stay here, Faithfully swathed in my heart. I would willingly spread branches Of palms around your manger. For you - for you alone I will gladly live and die. Come, let my soul find That state of joy again: You are born in here In the deep within my heart.

@@sbar.mcdan.25 something like this: My heart always lingers in the birthplace of Jesus My thoughts there gather as in a principal sum There, my longing is at home; there, my faith has its prize I never could forget you, oh blessed Christmas night Oh come, I will open my heart and my mind and full of longing sigh: Comest thou in, Jesus It's not a strange dwelling, you yourself have bought it So you can stay here, in my heart faithfully swathed I, gladly, around your manger, palm branches will scatter for You, for You alone, I will live and I will die Come, let my soul thus find its proper joyous moment, that you are born herein, in the deep foundations of the heart. Barnaby is the quintessential choral singer. Among all the many voces8 recordings I have listened to, I have never once been able to separate his voice from the general texture. That even includes this piece, where the altos sing a phrase all by themselves, just the two of them.. He and Katie are ONE VOICE. (Maybe it's jiust me.)
@ymbatw8205 Жыл бұрын
usually I find the opposite is true, but in their duet here, I completely agree. I couldn't pick out a single voice.
@kennethjones-vt7kv Жыл бұрын
Barnby is a Prima Dona who craves the limelight. His facial distortions are an absolute distraction and whenever he conducts, whilst singing along with the group, he ruins the optics every time with his affective gyrations. Furthermore, I wouldn't be surprised if several of the more recent resignations by some wonderful singers are due to Barnaby's ego issues.

I have also had the honor to work with him, and he is, in my opinion, one of the best conductors of the present day. Not only regarding choirs, but also orchestral. He gives you so much when he conducts, in fact he gives you all he has and is, even on a bad day. You can absolutely rely on his knowledge, energy and musicianship at any given moment. Regarding his singing, I, too, could very often not distinguish his voice from Katie's in the V8 recordings (except when he had a rare solo part). But luckily he has done some solo recordings recently, of Händel and Bach, which are marvellous. His voice definitely deserves more recognition. As a counter he never sounds effeminate, but virile and pure at the same time. He certainly ranks with the leading counters of this day (Orlinsky, Cenčic). And, though he's certainly aware of his talents and proud of his achievements (which he has every reason to be), he is NOT self-centered at all, but one of the kindest and most sociable persons I know! (Sorry, B, but had to be said)

This work is a stunning example of Blake's impressive talent, and the always impressively exquisite balance and blend of VOCES8 bring every precious note to life magnificently. The individual soloists' voices are pure pleasure and executed to true lyrical perfection. As with all their exceptional offerings, I am totally swept away with this beautiful presentation, something which is always 'gifted to us all' by VOCES8!
