Anthony Esolen 's "The Poetry of Praise" essay in the May 2024 "Magnificat" brought me here. "Many of the great composers, from Palestrina to Mozart, set the 'Regina Caeli' to music, but for simplicity & complexity woven together, & for sheer liveliness, you can't improve upon the polyphonic setting by Tomás Luis de Victoria"

My first concert of Tomás Luis De Victoria's works, in the cathedral of Salamanca, in Spain, literally changed my life forever. This here is the best performance of any of his works that I have ever heard in my 60 years on this planet.

Thank you for sharing your performance with us. In these times of disease, death, isolation and uncertainty, music, art and compassion are some of the only things left that bring joy to our hearts! But as long as they're not gone, we cannot lose hope. Some day a morning will break when the world is how it should be, when we can listen to your music in person again, sing together and live our lives to the fullest! Warmest greetings to the wonderful musicians and the rest of the world!

The Alleluia section at the end of the piece (2:48) just filled my spirit with shivers of gladness in a dark time! No one does it better than de Victoria, and you sang it superbly! Thank you for a bit of transcendent joy to get through the week! Bookmarked it. I too miss my choir. We were preparing the London version of Brahm's Requiem, when CV-19 cancelled everything. Apropos for the dearly departed, but also so very humane and comforting for times like these. Sing boldly and carry on! (as a Lutheran musician might put it today ;)

I have now seen Voces 8 twice, Cincinnati and Indianapolis, and I continue to be amazed at the outstanding musicianship you display every time I am privileged to attend a concert and see new videos. This piece allowed me to hear and differentiate between your lovely ladies. Grazie mille.
@oscarmaixealtes45162 жыл бұрын
