This is the best recording of this piece to date and probably ever. Its arrangement with both the SSA + SSAA and TTB + TTBB lends a richness that enhances this piece in all the best ways, and the alternation gives it a much needed variety. Every chord and phrase has been though through and masterfully woven- but most amazing of all, it is clear and audible at the first listen. It has a gentleness, a power, a richness and a thunderous quality that seems to wrap up every human emotion and send it soaring to God. I was moved first to stop it to find headphones, then restarted. Goosebumps preceded a rising sense of being overwhelmed by the sheer emotion and finally I burst into tears because of the undefinable beauty that overflowed out of my soul. An authoritative rendition. Thank you!!!!

So many things to love about this arrangement/adaptation, In particular: keeping all voices in essentially the same register, then shifting the entire register; on the verses, having other voices join in unison after the first phrase, in keeping with so much chant tradition, works beautifully. And I am reminded again how in such exemplary voices Andrea is especially blessed, and we in turned are blessed in the hearing. Thank you for sharing this.

This is one of my favorite pieces, and I now consider this to be my favorite arrangement/performance. Full choirs sometimes muddy the harmonies, and the version by Voces 8 alone, while lovely, sometimes missed the lushness of this version. Adding 4 more male voices and 1 more female is the Goldilocks version -- just right! Heavenly!!!

We sang this for Kentucky All State TTBB Choir under the direction of former Mormon Tabernacle Choir director Craig Jessop. I had just lost my best friend and I remember singing the stacked "Amens" at the coda and all I could do was weep. Im sure I was a sight just sobbing mid-phrase lol but if only they knew how heavy my heart was and how deeply this song touched me. Job well done!
