Proof that good music has no expiration date. The best part of watching this is that it's so obvious how much they are enjoying themselves.

Thank you VOCES8! This brought back fond memories 'discovering' madrigals were more than "with a hey, ho and a nonny nonny no" in 2nd year Music History some 48 years ago. The professor gave us the assignment to select a madrigal to analyze (I picked 'As Vesta was from Latmos Hill descending' ). Thus began a lifetime love of the art form . Thank you again!

At 2:45, the soprano leads out with "her presence entertain," and the alto trails behind her singing the same words. You give it a lovely emphasis.

I completely forgot how much I love madrigals. - Wonderfully interpreted! :) This brings back to my mind that I used to sing in a predominantly British choir in Zurich, Switzerland, from 2001 to 2006. We have sung music from the time of Queen Elizabeth I to Queen Elizabeth II, which is why we were called »The Elizabethan Singers«. I don't think the choir still exists.

So wonderfully performed: It's teatrical, entertaining, musical, instrumental and it very much mimicks how renaissance music probably sounded. For instance, in the second madrigal, when the spanish gentleman chats with the girl, the girl answers with a very nasal voice, which sounds like a regal in an echo effect, which was very common instrumentally in renaissance music(at least in organ music). Bravo!

Watched this video a zillion times during this troubled year, never got sick of this music, always craving for more and more! Amazing composer, master of masters along to Palestrina. Amazing pieces, specially Dessus le marché d'Arras, aparently so funny and silly, in such a complex modal counterpoint... _Obra prima!_ And of course VOCES8 are always amazing and such lovely singers. Thank you so much!

Dessus le marché d'Arras: Roland de Lassus is his official name, better than his italian name Orlando di Lasso, the song is in French: Mireli, mirela bon bas J'ai trouvé un espagnart, Sentin, senta sur la bon bas Mireli, mirela bon bille, Mireli, mirela bon bas. Il m'a dit: fille écouta De l'argent on vous donnera Sentin, senta sur la bon bas Mireli, mirela bon bille, Mireli, mirela, bon bas. Great refreshing interpretation indeed!

both madrigals were written for six voices, as was contemporarily common for this song type. although this arrangement could have included doubling of the two parts in question, i believe it was simply to achieve the desired, conventional, true Renaissance splendour that voces8 included only the six necessary parts.
