Yes but the models are the face of the show. They are the ones that show the clothes, show the diversity. True, models don’t have the final decision but the models that walk on the runway are seen by children. These children won’t feel disregarded or feel insecure because these children will seen themselves and not some person that is ‘idolized’ as the beauty standard.

A lot of lingerie lines will have skinny, white women as the face of majority of their campaigns. But RiRi made sure to include every ethnicity and body type in her shows, website and instagram. Being able to market your brand on a wider scale is important. If plus sized, and ethnic women were not marketed on a larger scale, big companies like Vogue would not be having conversations about representation. It had to take a brand like riri's (because of the heavy marketing) for conversations like this to be possible. That's what my post was meant to convey.

It seems like this video was more to inform than to actually try to make a change. But the thing is, we’ve known about this problem in the industry. I feel like they could’ve done more. It felt a bit performative but I appreciate hearing everybody’s experiences regarding their profession.

I have always wanted to be runway model ever since I knew what a modelling was and I have never been so right about making this decision of becoming a model but BECAUSE of my HEIGHT I have a lot of disadvantage but after seeing a lot a plus size model walking the ramp, breaking the stereotype of only tall, skinny models can walk the ramp, that gives me hope that one day in the further, there will be petite size model walking the ramp aswell.
@annietayenjam51893 жыл бұрын
@star It will.
@annietayenjam51893 жыл бұрын
@star but designer are starting to make clothes for the plus size models to fit so why would it be not possible for designers to start making clothes for petite size models and besides nobody is going to be 5'8 or 5'9 or any feet just like the models, half of the people coming to watch the show would be of various sizes so instead of portraying just one single size and a height why not make it more diverse. It's just my opinion but I'm sure there will be more petite size models walking the ramp. And u don't agree with me it's okay because it's your opinion and I respect that.
@annietayenjam51893 жыл бұрын
@star EVERYBODY'S DREAM is valid and even if the industry is not going to be changing the stereotype then I will be the one to be breaking that stereotype. I am not going to be giving up my dream just because of my height and I will prove that to everyone, mark my words.
@marielamela42433 жыл бұрын
@star maybe when they realize that around 75% of women in the world are considered ''short'' according to their standards, and those short women wont buy clothes that they have no idea how they would look like on them, maybe, just maybe, these fashion industry workers will realize who the real buying power is.

to the girl that said that she doesn’t fit into some of the same clothes at other models wear it’s not that your different. It’s just exactly the way God wanted it and that’s not a problem at all. You are not different at all. You are still a child of God and a Women❤️.

well, the "big" names can speak up and out-- their careers are already "there", but what about the ones just starting out? being "new" should never be synonymous with having no agency, regardless of profession, but it is.

Let's be really honest here they don't care! they just want to sell us something. I don't believe the industry cares about body positivity or including all different kinds of people of different colors. Bella and Gigi have gotten plastic surgery to fit the industry and are super skinny. Only reason there's the tiniest bit of change is because we are sick of it but the industry most certainly couldn't care less.

Ok, so all these models talk about their insecurities, lack of representation, racism, abuse, overstepping boundaries in the fashion industry. Great. But the oppressors are THE people hired by Vogue, the teams, the decision makers. It’s like you’re making your victim talk about their trauma but the abuser is still not held accountable or continues to have the freedom to continue this vicious cycle. Change comes when you start admitting you have a problem and being transparent. Why decision makers at Vogue aren’t coming out and taking responsibility to make that change? Diversity and respect is not that complicated

Exactly. There’s a difference with just representation and representation that is authentic. If you want to bring and celebrate diversity and represent all, do it because you truly care and not because it makes your brand look good.
