As someone mentioned, it was probably the Cartoon Network show called "Destroy, Build, Destory." This was during the dark ages when Cartoon Network decided to go from cartoons to live action shows.

9:18 The first vid "Bullshittery in Space Engineers" was made while the game was still in the early/mid Alpha stage, where the Playing space was limited to 400km² with only between 16-34 asteroids, no oxygene and no planets. The 2nd video was made a year or so later, in the late Alpha/early beta, where they released Procedurial Generated maps( nearly infinite maps with randomly generated asteroids), Planets, oxygen & Hydrogen and Jump Drives to rapidly cover large distances in space (there was not much of a need for them previously due to the limited size of maps, but since now maps can reach 6AU (1 Au=140 millions KM), Jump Drives became a neccesity) So yeah the addition of Planets and Moons did change the gameplay quite a bit, Planets has natural gravity wich impacts the handeling and flying of Ships and requires new Thristers simply called atmospheric Thrusters. Atmospheric thrusters works full in an Atmosphere, but only 10% in Space, while Ion Thursters works only 10% in Atmosphere but 100% in Space, Hydrogen Thrusters works 100% in both atmosphere and space, but requires Fuel, namely Hydrogen, wich is Finite and need H2O tanks and proper feeding through convoyeur tubes While the other 2 types of Thrusters only need Power, but after another update, you can find uranium for Nuclear reactors only in Space by minning asteroids, Planets and Moons don't have Uranium anymore, while it doesn't make much sens(we have uranium on earth), it was designed as a Progression curve, Uranium and Nuclear reactors being End game ship parts.

Sounds like you may be thinking of Scrapheap Challenge, which got an American makeover as Junkyard Wars. It was good while it lasted, but it came to a natural end. The whole ingenuity thing, putting something together from random parts to achieve a particular goal each week was interesting. And Lisa Rogers was decorative.

There was a kids version called destroy build destroy. A vehicle would be smashed or dropped from a crane and then the kids would go to their vehicles and try to find useful parts from it. They would then build a new vehicle from the part and then complete in a series of challenges using the vehicle. Whichever team won the most challenges, they would then get to destroy the other team’s vehicle. It was actually pretty cool.

You can actually change your starting point. Starting on a planet is technically impossible mode for beginners. You want to start in a pre-built space station.
