Just got a LED task light at the store (US) and was a bit creeped out by the voice command. Thanks for the explanation... it made me feel great about not having to worry about being spied on. I completely agree with you that this tech should be simple and free from needless data collection and surveillance on customers.

That’s the most interesting comment I’ve read in a while! Thanks for watching! I’m curious though, what’s a task light? I cant say for sure that that light does not have microphones that are connected to the internet. The best way to make sure you aren’t spied on is to make sure that you don’t connect it to the internet, or that the mechanism does all the processing on device. That’s generally the best or most easy way to make sure of it. The light I have in the video is a rare piece that doesn’t require the internet to process voice commands. Either way, hope this was helpful! Happy to hear from like minded peeps!

If you desolder the led and resolder wires to a optical relay you could theoretically still use this to say turn on turn off... I don't know what happens if you try other commands. These just arrived in my country and don't require me to learn mandarin.

And control higher voltage or large lights through their own power source just by opening closing the relay? I guess you would have to study the signal outputs to the led but there has to be a way to reverse engineer this as a hobbyist and apply it to other stuff. When I saw these in store I was like this has to be fake, it can't work, then I was like is it ai or it is just soundwave analysis? What's going on here.. I tried talking with an accent, a slur, etc,. To see if I could trick it. I hope BigClive on KZbin does a tear down video he usually explains the chips and circuits and even redesigns them to show how the manufacture could have done it better. :)

@@altonschannel there is another KZbin who demos an e27 standard north American lightbulb that functions exactly like this and in the same video he has the led version and he wired it to a relay and it worked. I am super excited someone actually did it.

@@altonschannel gadget addict is the username, and the video title was voice control any light for a few bucks. In a previous video he got shipped the mandarin led one and it took him a minute to realize and he got it working, with translation app, until he could mimic Mandarin.
