Once you've got it dialed in & split I always listen through, then if I find I've clipped one word short I can just drag the end of the split out to include it again. Also I don't use your merge & glue technique now but render out the two tracks as one mono via the master bus. I'll often do a batch of recordings, then edit them, & render out individually by time selection.

"THAT takes more time, there it is found it" really got me there. This helps so so much with editing for auditions, just explaining the functions of both dynamic split and REAgate gives so much clarity. Thanks for this!

@@CrownStagVoiceover I do have another question. when you drag the room tone up into the other file, I understand the glueing process, but when you overlapped them it was very clean (no crossfade markers) do you have them turned off?
@CrownStagVoiceover3 жыл бұрын
Drag it just past the end of your recording and then glue together so all your cross fades will disappear

Great videos and very helpul thus far in my VO journey. Thanks for your hard work! Question: I am editing on a Mac Studio. The SWS Extensions will not load (or show up) in Reaper for me. Have downloaded all the SWS versions for Mac, shut down and restarted Reaper multiple times but I get no love. Any thoughts?

Hey Neil, Maybe I missed it. The way you use dynamic split is fantastic, but does it cover background noise that happens during speech; not just separate peaks? Like dropping a pen, random dog, or bumping the desk while you're mid sentence. Or should they be used together
@CrownStagVoiceover2 жыл бұрын
Dynamic split is only really good for the ambient noise or background noise in the booth. So breathes and clicks work great, if you dog barks while you are talking there is not much you can do except re record. I get it with my cats sometimes. Basically while you speak EVERYTHING is getting in. You best bet is just record at a time and place that will be as quiet as possible. Also depending on the mic and how you set it up you can filter out frequencies

Thanks for this vid. Nice job When I hit the split, my spaces are slammed shut and the pieced close up. They don’t stay open like yours does. What am I missing? Thanks.

That was a feature they added last year and I couldn’t figure out how to turn ripple ending off on dynamic split. If you download oct 2020 version you should be fine

When you merge and glue the vocal and room tone tracks, does the new room tone come through when you're talking? I'm asking because I don't want to use my own room tone, as it can be a bit too noisy, but wonder if there's going to be a difference that's noticeable to someone who's not knew to this like me.
@CrownStagVoiceover2 жыл бұрын
You want to try and have your room tone consistent, if you have clean tone and then background noise while you talk it will only highlight it

@@CrownStagVoiceover Thanks for the tips! I recorded my own room tone then merged/glued it after the dynamic split. My noise floor is -144 and won't pass ACX. All of my noise suppression and EQ is off. I'm super confused.

Where is your noise floor when you're average recording level is between -18 and -12 as in this example? Are you well below -60 or or right at -60?
@CrownStagVoiceover2 жыл бұрын
My noise floor is below -60 but -60 is where the DAW stops recording it
@kevinklotz93982 жыл бұрын
@@CrownStagVoiceover I'm having issues getting my nose for below 60 at this recording level. My noise floor peaks slightly above and drops slightly below -60. When normalizing to -3 I get a room tone that then hangs at around -54 or a little more. Which would make sense. Is this just a case of more sound dampening?
@CrownStagVoiceover2 жыл бұрын
Are you using a USB mic? Or have any fan noise in your recording space?
@kevinklotz93982 жыл бұрын
@@CrownStagVoiceover I,m using an AKG P220 condenser to a scarlet solo. I just built a sound panel framed in wood, drywall on the front face and plywood on the back. I took a bunch of old clothes and stuffed the panel full. I have blankets and old clothes further mounted around the booth. The only thing I can think is that there just simply HAS to be ambient noise still getting in. If not it's gotta be equipment? I put weather stripping around the door jam, put a moving blanket on the door and then attached carpet pieces on top of that. I have a ton of soft material that has been layered. This is in a downstairs closet. The back wall is against the edge of the house and underground as it's in the basement. The wall with the sound panel is facing my son's room. It's just a hiss that I can't get lower than hovering at -60.
@CrownStagVoiceover2 жыл бұрын
🤔 have you tried moving your mic to a different location in the booth perhaps, or record the room tone when you are out of the booth. At the very worst if you are using reaper there is a noise removing feature you can use but it’s a last resort
