Thanks for the great reaction! Dimash is from Kazakhstan (central asia), not Russia. The oboe-like instrument is an Armenian duduk. The singing style he used towards the end is a combination of central asian, middle eastern, and near eastern traditional singing styles. He does a similar thing during his Singer 2018 rendition of "Hello."

Dimash has a plenty of traditional Kazakh songs in his repertuar. and, yes, he posess all the freedom to use any technics he feels is suitable for a particular theme. In this song he imitates with his voice the central asian musical instrument zurna, i guess.

He is not only from Kazakhstan but he is a Kazakh, members of an eastern Turkic group. Seljuks Turks, who migrated to Asia Minor/Turkey, are a western Turkic people. His stated musical goal in 2017 was to incorporate classical singing technique within the pop genre. In 2018, he wanted to integrate folk elements as well, which first showed up in his performance of "Hello" from Singer 2018.

I mention that he is a Kazakh because his heritage and presenting it to the world is extremely important to him (he was appointed Cultural Ambassador). The Kazakhs were a persecuted minority under the Soviet Union and tens of thousands were killed under Stalin's regime and much greater numbers were forced to migrate outside of their homeland. Since their independence, many Kazakhs have returned and Kazakh and Russian languages are now both used in the country.

Former Soviet Union split on 16 ( I think) independent Republics. One of them is Kazakhstan , Dimash country. They speak Kazakh language, but many of them Russian which was official language in former SU a. Dimash speaks and easily sings in Russian .

Thank you for your reaction. Dimash was offered a position in an Opera company but declined as he wanted to explore his range. You are correct that he is covering all genres. He calls his style neo-classic. He comes from Kazakhstan.

Thank you for your appreciative, connoisseur and expert comments. Should there have been some traces of folk music in Dimash's singing, I'm quite confident that they were not Russian. Dimash is a Kazakh, but yes Kazakhstan (Qazaqstan, in modern spelling), too, has a rich folk music tradition. This song constituted a part of Dimash's three-hour solo concert in Moscow on 23 March 2019. He had given a concert also a day earlier (22 March), when he was wearing a black suit while performing "Know." The song was originally called "Ascolta la voce", but Mr. Krutoi and Dimash renamed it "Знай" (Know). It is composed by the eminent Russian composer Igor Krutoi, who plays the piano in this performance. He and Dimash have produced four masterpieces in a row: "Love of the Tired Swans," (elected the "Song of the Year 2018 in Russia), "Mademoiselle Hyde," "Love is Like a Dream," and also this "Know."

Thank you! I knew that but my mind kept thinking of Kazakhstan as being in the old Soviet Union. (I sometimes make mistakes in the moment of filming.) However, I did more research on the exact geography so I won't make that mistake anymore. Kazakhstan has an interesting history and the culture seems equally fascinating.

I love this official studio version, but as you are a voice coach I would suggest you to watch the Live version from fancams as named "Ascolta la Voce" that is different, improvised,, phenomenal and breathtaking. You will find some good recording focused completely on Dimash. This is edited version studio recording on live video that's why close ups of Dimash are few.

That singing style comes from Turkish roots. Kazakhistan , Azerbaijan , Turkey , Kırghizstan... There are many Turkish countries. Each of them have their cultural style of singing. He has all of them. Nice reaction more Dimash please 👏👏👏

This music, which was written by the Russian composer Igor Krutoy (playing the piano), is the leitmotif to the film "Mademoiselle Zhivago". In 2010, Lara Fabian performed vocals to this tune, she also plays a major role in this film. Dimash performed 2 different versions of the song at a concert in Moscow on March 22 and 23, 2019.
