For me she is the biggest surprise os this season. What a talented lady
@xXTheoLinuxXx3 жыл бұрын
She was the only one that I never heard before this season started. You mentioned that you can understand a few dutch words, well to make it even more complicated she wasn't singing in Dutch, but a lower saxon dialect. The original singer (Bökkers) sings in dialect, so the fact that she sings in his dialect made it even more special.

Karsu is certainly very talented. She played Carnegie Hall when she was 17 and she is a huge star in Turkey, but also big in the Netherlands. As other people have already suggested: please listen to "Hijo de la luna" which she sings beautifully in Spanish for Belle Perez.
@robgerhardterellen14883 жыл бұрын
Hi Valerie, her version of Hijo De La Luna in Beste Zangers 2021 is amazing, Spanish song with Turkish vibes. And do not forget her songperformance of Hollywood Seven. Also Anneke van Giersbergen with the English version of Sobrevivire is highly recommended. Last but not least Annekes cover version of Endless Road. Finally Roel Van Velzen with his version of Listen to the Man with the Golden Voice and Flamish girl Belle Perez with Spanish roots and her songperformance of Specialized in You.
@Jos_G.3 жыл бұрын
Yes. both a very good choice, especially the translated version to English by Anneke. I hope Valerie has some time to react to those. I would be very pleased.

She's singing in his dialect. She had to learn it but everybody she called talled her to ask Hendrik Jan (rhe guy she's singing at). She couldn't say why Hendrik Jan was not the one to help her. At last someone told her to call Freek (from the duo Suzan and Freek of last season) because his dialect is very simular. So he thought Karsu how to pronounce the words.

This song is about a speed devil being an asshole on the road just for the thrill of it. An de kant means move over. Sung in a regional language that sounds very robust to the Dutch ear it's extra funny! She really captures its spirit & I love it 😁

This is a song about defiance, about living in the moment, about forgetting all of societies restrictions (in traffic) and just doing things intuitively. It is not in Dutch but in "Westfaals" (Westphalian), a Lower Saxon dialect that strongly influenced the Scandinavian languages but in The Netherlands was mostly pushed out by "offical" Dutch!: Lyrics + English translation: ('k stap in mien wagen, 'k heb goeie zin) I get in my car, I'm in a good mood. (Ik loat 't lekker spoken;'k ri-j oaveral tegenin) I'm letting loose, going against everything. ('t Rooie stoplicht dat haal ik nog net) The red light I barely make it ('k Gef zoveel gas da'k 't remmen verget) I'm giving so much gas that I forget to brake (Alle rontondes die nem ik linksum) All roundabouts I take them counterclockwise (Dat vin'k zo mooi, ik wet zelf niet woarum) I like that so much, I don't know why (Ik zie een drempel, dat is mien kans) I see a speed bump, that is my chance (Ik swing um veurbi-j die langzame zwans) I swing by him that slow schmuck (An de kant! An de kant!) Out of the way! Out of the way! (Oh, 'k rem niet veur dieren, want ik rem nooit) Oh, I don't brake for animals, because I never brake ('k heb al zien leaven al tied zat verknooid) I have during life already wasted enough time (Alle polities die daag ik uut) All police I challenge them (Want ik krieg een kick van't sirenegeluud) because I get a kick out of the sound of the siren (Ik kiek in de spiegel, ze kommen mien noa) I look in the mirror, they are following me (Ze goat dezelfde kant uut die ik ook goa) They are going the same way that I go (Hahaaa ik stroop mien mouwen op) Hahaaa I roll up my sleeves (Mien harte pomt, want ik ri-j op kop) My heart is pumping, cause I'm in the lead (An de kant! An de kant!) Out of the way! Out of the way! (De eerste vief wagens die bun ik zo kwiet) The first five cars I've lost them in a jiffy (Moar dan ken i-j die wouten nog niet) But than you don't know about them coppers ('t Bunt net mieren; ze blieven moar kommen) They are like ants, they keep on coming (Ik schakel terug. Potverdomme!) I shift back. What the hell!) (An de kant! An de kant!) Out of the way! Out of the way!

I must say this season beste zangers is great again! ( last year it just didnt move me so much and ofcourse beste zangers 2019 with floor was the best) this dutch lady which turkish roots is also a pleasant surprise singing a song with the typical dutch dialect/slang of the guy on the couch( killerperformance )
@markovermeer13943 жыл бұрын
They speak this dialect about 50km from where I live/was born. It is really hard to understand for me. The Netherlands has many strong dialects. In this episode where Bökkers has the focus, a few people translate his songs in dialect to their own local dialects. But Karsu from Amsterdam (who usually sings in Turkish, Dutch, or English) decided to master his dialect with great success.

This is the beauty of Beste Zangers, even for me as a dutchman, Karsu who i did not knew before is a pleasant surprise. But also the young man, Joe Buck really has a very good voice. Last thursday Anneke did it again, i've had chickenskin all over when she sang a translated version of Sobrevivirė, so beautifull and i've heard something in her voice which i had not heard before. Hi Valerie.. so what about Karsu ... isnt she something, something awesome! hehehe Others already mentioned she sings this in a tricky dialect but i rather point out her singing itself, a certain raw yet clean sound that attracts attention in seconds. Like most Dutch people.. i had no idea who she was prior to the show, our Turkish/Dutch friends knew her well, but we did not and i am ever so happy that we now do know who she is and what she has to offer. I think she's amazing and every song she gave us so far has been gold. Also mentioned by others, her cover of one of the most beautiful Spanish hits from the 80's, original by a band called "Mecano" and that song is "Hijo de la Luna". Not only is it a beautiful song, i think it's one of those "singer songs", it has a sad but beautiful story and the flow of the vocal lines just seem a joy to sing. (Maybe something for you and your students?) Thnx for the react Valerie :D

Great choice, Valerie. To me Karsu is the revelation of this years season of "Beste Zangers". I've never heard of her before, but I know one thing, " This girl has a bright future in front of her".👌 Here are the translated Lyrics. "Pull Over" I get into my car, I'm in a good mood I'll let it haunt me, I'll drive everywhere I can just make the red traffic light I give it so much gas that I forget to brake All the roundabouts I take to the left That's what I like about it, I don't know why. I see a threshold, that's my chance I'm going to turn that slow swan around Pull over! I don't brake for animals because I never brake I've wasted all my life All the police I've challenged I get a kick out of the siren noise I look in the mirror, they come at me They're going in the same direction I'm going Hahaaa I roll up my sleeves My heart is pumping Cause I'm in the lead On the side ----------- Let them come, the gas is on the board I'll kick it through the boajem lord Let them come, the gas is on the way I'm lubricating my wagon The first five cars I can't find But then I don't know the cops. They're like ants; they just keep on coming. I shift back. Holy shit Pull over ----------- Now I really get going My good fortune is: I'm never afraid The drawbridge has just gone up She sees me fly like a leaf out of a tree I'll go high, but not that high The wagon thunders on its head I climb up on shore with the steering wheel in my hand Smiling and waving to the other side ------------- The bridge is going down, but I won't let her know me She catches up with me when she runs away "Oh, Mr. Jovink It's good to see you Have you got a sticker for me?" -------------

@@user-HD4891 You might be right, the best translation would be: "Get Out of My Way" or simply "F#*k Off", it's just that I don't want to use foul language in my comments. "Pull Over", makes it instandly clear to all, without hurting anyones feelings.
@JanStuivenberg28103 жыл бұрын
@@guidoheuts Nice, but the meaning is very different. "Get out of my way" is the right translation because she wants everybody out of her way when she is speeding. "Pull over" is something what the police would say, not her. And why is "Get out of my way" offensive? The translation contains some steenkolen Engels (pardon the expression). But still a very nice afford. Hope you are not offended by my reaction. 😊
