In terms of his high note singing, I wouldn't say this is a great representation of it. He's really holding back on these notes and there's many videos where he's actually singing them and even more clearly. Great singer. Hope you keep reacting to their stuff.

I believe that on this tour, incluiding the fact of not beeing able to sing in a healthy way back in those days, Bruce forced his voice several times, so on this show, his voice was already tired and note able to sing in a high pitch

@@TheVocalyst As a former classical singer myself, singers like Bruce Dickinson as well as Geoff Tate (Of the band Queensryche), and Roy Khan (of the bands Kamelot, and Conception) totally got me into this kind of music. Some awesome singers. Roy Khan studied opera before he went into metal and Geoff's aunt was an opera singer with the Cincinnati Opera.

Saw this and had to watch immediately. Taking my 10 year old stepson to see them next week. Bruce can’t hit some of those notes anymore, but it doesn’t matter, he’s garnered so much goodwill through the years (he beat throat cancer about 6, 7 years ago), and still gives 100%. Nobody beats them live. Great review!!

just saw them last Sunday, awesome show, with a ton of pyrotechnics. I'd recommend bringing some foam earplugs, and seat them just enough that it doesn't distort/muffle the sound, but lessens impact. People around me were complaining afterwards about how bad their ears were ringing, mine were fine. I was about 100 feet from the stage, on the floor.

Hi Bethany, I love your reactions. You have the most amazing, happy smile!!😁 This was recorded at Long Beach Arena in 1985 and, if I'm not mistaken, this was the fourth night of a 4 night sold out show at this location so by this time his voice was pretty tired but he was still able to pull it off pretty well. This particular recording is all the more impressive if you watch the entire show, and see Bruce blowing his voice out completely trying to get the high notes in the first song they play... Aces High. It's the most heroic piece of singing I've ever seen. To still be able to do this song justice a good hour later is beyond incredible.

4 consecutive nights at Long Beach Arena during a 192 date tour, a couple of those (I believe New York and one of other) were cancelled due to Bruce being ill, and his still pretty raw style of singing, it’s hardly a surprise his voice was on the edge. Compare his first run in the band (81-93) with his current run (99-present), and you can tell his style has matured over the years. His performances are just as big as they ever were, but that rawness is gone.

Aces High is not a vocal melody Bruce would have ever written to sing, the song sucks for them because it’s really un-singable live for Bruce with Maiden. It’s all Steve Harris to blame here. Almost the worst song to have to open a set with. Dickinson can simply not sing the A4-B4-C5-D5 part of the verse with any consistency… and compared to the beautiful album version the chorus simply does not translate live, it falls flat. I’d also like to point out that Bruce has no trouble hitting the D5 note on a song like The Talisman. He can swoop up to the note in that context. Aces High is simply an unsingable melody that Steve forced Bruce to sing. Well, OK it wasn’t terrible on the Flight 666 movie version… but it’s a ball buster vocally.

if you're dwelling into rock and metal, rob halford from judas priest and Ronnie James Dio are great example of how metal and rock singers can develop so many different uses for their voices. Like bruce dickinson has a storytelling type voice in some songs, yet can hit really long, high notes. not to mention, he is VERY active during performances which i know makes it difficult on breath control

Singing with that kind of power is not easy by any stretch, it’s an aerobic workout in itself. Considering what he’s doing at his current age is extremely commendable. He may not be hitting some of the stuff with the same pristine tenor range of youth but there is an aged quality to it now that’s as appealing as a well worn set of shoes or a well aged wine. It’s a quality that could only be etched from a lifetime of honing a craft. Actually the same could be said of the whole band. There aren’t many bands that have retained the classic members for this long putting out music of such high quality…greatest band on earth! I’m going to see them the last two shows so I’m pretty stoked at the moment…welcome to the Maiden family.

Alot of great singers it's not just about the voice, but what they can do with it, and Bruce definitely knows how to do that, and he can hold a note like it's nobodies business

Another great melodic metal band is Helloween actually they have a long song called Halloween which is a fitting one. they might have played that live on the pumpkins united tour that would be cool because then you get all the singers the band had in one performance. They invented a subgenre called power metal in teh 80s and Michael Kiske is a singer you must have heard. You could also go for keeper of the seven keys instead if the "Halloween" theme is not what you want.

My son might have been 10 and one day stopped dead in his tracks hearing this song. He got such a haunted look and whispered..."I know this song". I sing in a deep baritone and quietly started singing from the start and watched his face. As a metal head lullabyes and baby song nauseated me when he was in the cradle so I sang him to sleep with what I new. This song,s opening and my voice were usually enough to put him in a trance. Another tune you have covered, Silent Lucidity by Queensryche was another one he knew before he was old enough to know. He is now 20 and one of our best evenings is swapping tunes on KZbin for each other to hear.

By this point of this particular tour- which went on for 13 months straight!- Bruce's voice was not in peak condition and he was pretty much exhausted. If you watch him he throws his left arm up every time he needs to hit a top B just to help get the momentum and energy to hit the notes. And this song is riddled with top Bs. It's a testament to his fitness that he could get through it at all.

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is a good song where Bruce the singer holds a long note. I still can't compete.

They have a song called Phantom Of The Opera. One is sung by Bruce (this singer) and the original singer from years before (Paul Di'Anno).

They still sound just as good today as they did in the 80s Bruce’s voice still sounds as good as he did when he was in his prime even after throat cancer if you ever get a chance to see them live you need to go you won’t be disappointed

Great pick, Bethany. Take a look at Iron Maiden's "Fear of the Dark" performance from Rock in Rio. It's chilling o hear a quarter of a million fans singing along to Bruce's vocals.
