I watched Iam's audition that same week, but I listened again today and cried again. He's in the Top 5 of American Idol now, and I hope he wins. When the season began, I am ashamed to say that I thought there was no way that a person so overweight could win, but I was sure wrong. He is amazing. Inside out, he is a beautiful person that shares his light wherever he goes. I love the guy.

Given his incredible talent not only as a singer but as an amazing acoustic musician and growing up around a Polynesian family on an island like Hawaii it would not surprise me that he would have been invited to sing at many funerals and memorials for families and friends despite his age. His voice is mature and articulate but to a degree that is very personal and from a space of humble respect and regard for ancestors and respected persons of familial importance. It does not surprise me that he got through this performance because I believe he brings some experience and humility for whom the song was intended.
