I don't know how many people remember this but here goes. On November 27, 2015, a mass shootingoccurred in a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to nine. A police officer and two civilians were killed; five police officers and four civilians were injured. At a December 9 court appearance, the attacker, Robert Lewis Dear, Jr., repeatedly interrupted proceedings, made statements affirming his guilt (although he did not enter a formal plea), and expressed anti-abortion and anti-Planned Parenthood views, calling himself "a warrior for the babies." I grew up not 2 miles from that clinic and it exists in a popular King Soopers shopping center, its close to a high school lots of teens go for lunch. My parents shop there a lot still. I remember calling praying my parents were not caught in the crossfire. I knew officer Garrett Swasey who was a UCCS cop while I attended. Seemed like a decent guy, never acted like a dick, and I am sure is wasn't taking part in some bullshit holy war. These movies are all too real, only the protaganists can often be vicious and violent and hurt the innocent. Films like this only push a dangerously false narrative and embolden monsters like Dear.

It'll anger you even more you know that the Suicidal Woman is a refernce to "Crisis Pregnancy Centers" What's a Crisis Pregnancy Center? It's a pro-life organization that passes itself off as a Medical Organization to "Give women the facts on abortion" to "Make sure they're sure" If you call or go in, you'll be met with people who have fancy medical sounding titles not backed by any doctorate. Who will do their damndest to make any woman who actually buys into this afraid of Abortion. Some of their actual claims included the "fact" that abortion increases the risk of ovarian cancer (No it doesn't), and that most women "Regret their decision" (Most women polled say they do not) often "Getting PTSD which eventually leads to suicide" Ahh yes, that epidemic of suicidal Abortion Patients... that no one else ever mentions. Not even official Government Statistics on Suicide which show that most suicides are Cisgendered Men (Linked to Depression) and Transgender Women (Linked to Discrimination from Peers). Both are groups who obviously aren't being lead to these acts by abortion since, ya know, neither can get pregnant. Due to several complaints, lawsuits, and Google realizing their own services were being used by people advertising what can legally be called Medical Malpractice, many of them have been shutdown or forced to rebrand themselves as something that doesn't sound like it's a legitimate healthcare provider. The Pro-Birth Movement still holds onto these "medical" non-truths as scare tactics So yeah.... that woman who killed herself? The personification of Republican men pretending to be doctors

Also abortion is a kinda huge term. According to my medical records I've had 4 abortions. As that's what removing non fertilized eggs stuck on your tunes is considered same with removing a non viable egg stuck to an ovarian cyst. Both of which don't result in a baby if untreated. Removing a miscarriage is also an abortion. The idea it's always a viable fetus is bullshit

Not to mention women who do want to have children, but something goes horribly wrong with the fetus' health. I remember a case where a Catholic hospital refused to perform an abortion on a fetus whose brain cavity had calcified. The woman was devastated, but the on staff priest refused to sign off on the procedure, saying it was god's will and that she should carry the dead child to term.

Very true! One of my previous gynecologists actually told me I should stay on the pill, even though I wasn't sexually active any longer, because I'm on depakote. It's known to cause birth defects and he thought I shouldn't take any chances, including the possibility of being sexually assaulted. Also, so many psychiatric disorders are genetic. I inherited mine from both parents, neither of whom knew about their disorders till after having 3 kids (my siblings are both mentally ill as well). I'd never bring a child into this world, knowing they would be forced to have my disease. That would be cruel.

Bsword640 First off Martin Luther King Jr. has a couple problems of his own. He was a serial adulterer and womanizer and didn't believe in immaculate coception of Christ, two HUGE no-no's, especially for a preacher. Second, Sanger also spoke at and had the support of the Ku Klux Klan, and would promote openly racist people like Lothrop Stoddard to the board of directors of her organization, and would feature essays by racists in her magazine she founded and edited. We can't ever know her true intentions fully, as with anyone, but through her ties, actions, and her legacy we can get a very good idea of them. Today in the U.S. for every thousand live black births there are 420 aborted black children, significantly more than any racial group in the U.S. Almost 20 million black children have been aborted by now. If she was trying to stop blacks from reproducing, she succeeded.

My grandmother was from the middle east and one of the most catholic people I've ever known. She immigrated to the US in 1924. Issues like this disgusted her in a different way than you would think. "God makes no mistakes. Who are you to judge. God is the only judge. What these women must go through. They should be treated with compassion and care. We should love them because God doesn't make anything without love." As close as I can remember this is what she told a man who was protesting planned parenthood as we walked to get ice cream. She had two children after many miscarriages. She still believed that you should not judge people for making a decision like this. That's not to say that she agreed with abortion. It just wasn't her place to judge. The church we attended would be disgusted with this movie. I no longer attend but I do remember the priest trying to stifle his anger one Sunday during his homily where he discussed people who protest these clinics and harass the people that use their services. He never once had the same tone when talking about abortion itself. I don't consider myself catholic or of any other belief system anymore. But I'll always remember that we were always told that there is no place in god's world for hate. The hate and contempt these people show will always betray the love their god represents. "If your heart is truly filled with god then there would be no room left for that hatred"

Birth rates are low because people don't have a stable life until they are 40. In order to solve this either we find away to restart growth through technology (for example composite material manufacturing), or we must reimagine the economy. Subsidizing parents might help, but not much. Anyway, don't worry about immigrants: in one or two generations their birth rates will look like ours. Our economy favors this family system, and people adapt to economy, before adapting to culture.

I volunteered for planned parenthood for a period of time. I was a "patient escort" where basically, I would meet patients at their car, let them know who I am, and make sure they make it into the office feeling some sense of security, since there are radical Christian protesters outside yelling at them, regardless of who they are or what they are actually coming in for. I remember there would be female admin employees for planned parenthood who would walk in and hear, "you don't have to do this, you'd be a wonderful mother!" just going into work. Now this movie isn't very accurate (go figure) because these protesters had very clear, defined lines of where they were allowed to be. And it was on the sidewalk outside of the parking lot. They usually respected that line, but we'd just walk over and they'll back up. They definitely were not allowed to enter the building, and if they did, all services in the clinic would stop, and all the patients would be behind security doors while they call the cops. This nutjob would certainly not be harassing patients in the waiting room, especially with one of us in there. But yeah. Drama?

I don't think you meant to imply it but I doubt most women, even if they were atheists, would get an abortion just because they don't want to be a mother. Even women who fully believe that it's the best choice at the time have ended up regretting it, or feel guilt afterwards, and even when they don't they can still dwell on what their child would look like twenty years after they had the abortion. It may not be rational but it leaves psychological scars, even if it was a necessary operation that had to be done to save their lives. Miscarriages leave similar effects.

I still doubt most women would do it just because they don't want to be a mother, because the relief felt in 3 years isn't going through their minds at the time they have to make the decision, on top of any social stigma they may experience.

I can't remember exactly, which is a problem. I remember reading an article (it could have been a reddit thread) where a woman was talking about her own experience with abortion and whether she regretted 20 years on and talking it through with her support group. For what it's worth she also said she made the right choice, but what stuck with me was that she would sometimes wonder what her children would look like now and what her life would have been like as a mother. I wasn't really trying to support or defend either decision, but I definitely should be looking more thoroughly and using more than what ultimately amounts to anecdotal evidence.

Mansplaining is when a man lectures someone else (usually a woman) about a topic and done without asking and/or considering that the person they are speaking towards might already know what they're talking about. This is often called "Man"-splaining because it is most often done by men who don't interact with a lot a women or don't find them often discussing said topic in the social groups (though this can be done to other men) they frequent and feel the need to act as some sort of authority on the subject, even though they weren't asked. Obviously, most people find it kind of rude to be lectured to by someone who possess they same or less knowledge about something, based on the assumption that because of some arbitrary detail (such as being a woman).

I find comments insisting that if a man wants a woman to keep a baby that he "helped make" his opinion should be counted quite interesting. The decision should be made by two people? And what if they can't come to an agreement? What if the woman decides to have an abortion and the man decides she should not? I have a feeling that people under this opinion don't really understand the tormenting situation of a woman being unwillingly forced to carry a baby for close to a year while she suffers everything that goes along with it. And I don't think they care.
@dinkrumpchumper1385

Plushypony 94 I think it's more nuisance than that I think their is a one sidedness when it comes to pregnancy and divorce courts and I think people are just advocating for men to have a say in the matter while I agree women shouldn't be forced to carry a baby they don't want I think men should have the option of opting out of the legal responsibility of being the father just as women have that choice with abortion and adoption, I mean the men who would opt out anyway are probably the ones who are just gonna run and Abandon the situation anyway so why not have a less stressful and time consuming way of giving men the same choice women have?
@adeer87
@adeer87 7 жыл бұрын
Nihilistic American1776 I understand your opinion, and I respect it. You make some points that I agree with. There is definitely bias when it comes to divorce, and in some other cases, and men's options should be treated as important. However, I've seen men given a lot of say in the matter of pregnancy, like in this movie, and from people I've listened to who genuinely believe that women should make their decision on their pregnancy based on what the man wants, so I tend to become a little wary. But with what you pointed out, I may very well have made some unfair assumptions.
@DragonMaiden77
@DragonMaiden77 7 жыл бұрын
Plushypony 94 It's not just court bias to give custody to the woman. If you actually pay attention to the real court cases and what actually goes on between them instead of just the overview, the fathers often don't *WANT* full time custody of the children. So no it is not a conspiracy that the court system is biased. Fathers in general just don't want the responsibility of full time care in a lot of cases. *Not All* but that's sadly how it happens.
@adeer87
@adeer87 7 жыл бұрын
DragonMaiden77 You also make an interesting point. I'd be very interested in an objective study of this issue. I do think that is sometimes assumed that women are automatically good parents, but the kind of situations you mentioned happen as well. I think that "fathers in general" is an unfair statement, though. I feel that I don't have enough information to make a concrete statement on this.

Plushypony 94 Wow a reasonable and well spoken person in the KZbin comments? Is this the ends times or what? Brad's not wrong: this practically IS a pro-choice movie considering how insane the main character is portrayed as. The fact that he's portrayed as the protagonist is one of those "says a lot more about you than it does the people you think you're making the movie about." A woman died because she had an abortion. Not because she lacked access to mental-health or a social safety net...because she was talked into an abortion by a women's health clinic. Edit: Yeah, by the end I was 100% expecting him to either take the clinic hostage at gunpoint or full-on shoot it up with his church group eulogizing him, saying that his actions wouldn't have been necessary if only the clinic had closed down.

One important detail I think you're missing here are all the pregnant women in this movie with baby bumps. Abortions typically have to happen within the first trimester or else women risk additional medical complications. But the movie doesn't know how to communicate "pregnant woman" to it's audience without making them visibly pregnant. This is a problem because women don't typically show this advanced pregnancy until their *third* trimester. By this time, if the woman hasn't made up her mind yet, it's already too late to abort. She HAS to have the baby. Yet this movie is depicting all these women in already in their third trimester acting as if they're teetering on the edge of deciding to get an abortion! Which is bullshit! Hey lady! You had MONTHS to decide if you wanted to abort! What the hell have you been doing all this time?! It's too late now!

If they genuinely believe that a freshly fertilized egg is a human baby, then it's kind of understandable why they would be so adamant about abortion. If the law said children can be aborted up to five years old, most people would be upset. From their point of view, a person is being killed. +mca mac. I certainly get that side of it. Of course at the same time as a society we've already accepted killing if it falls into certain categories. Some countries allow for execution of criminals. We don't generally throw soldiers into jail that kill in the line of duty. And the examples could go on further. Laws on abortion just establish another category where it is acceptable. We draw lines all the time. Not to say they shouldn't have their views or even debate them. If they feel the line isn't being drawn in the right place or in this case it shouldn't exist they can certainly argue for it. But certainly there is also a line in what is acceptable even in that. Sensitive issues are tricky and I doubt they'll be resolved any time soon.

7:21 I assume that the answer to this, 'difficult question', that Jessie's answering is that since the baby wasn't born, and thus, not baptized, the lady just sentenced it to Hell, specifically Limbo, because it inherited the Original Sin, which can only be washed away through baptizing. Thanks to reading Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. At least now I know why she kills herself in the movie. Because Jessie shamed her with infant damnation, a practice that most sects of Christianity have abandoned for its sheer cruelty.

The problem is that the movie is intended to scare people away from abortions because of religious reason, not because they intended for anything fair. If your point is to scare people away from abortions, then there is no proper way to handle such a heavy issue.

The anti-abortion people that scare me the most are the ones that wouldn't allow a baby to be aborted if it was a surefire thing that the child would die painfully and quickly from birth defects, or if the baby was stillborn. As Roe v Wade established, Mother > Child. Even my pastor (Lutheran) said that the mother should be saved if it seemed like the fetus was endangering her life and that by not aborting, both would inevitably die.

I'm pro-life, but I realize there are medical scenarios where abortions are needed. Also, you can't convince me that the main character isn't a serial killer or a psychopath in training. "Did they tell you could end up like this girl?", shudders in revulsion. How was that line not viewed as a veiled death threat?

I was surprised to see two actors I've worked with in this movie. I was involved in a video production, "The Second Chance Bar", intended to be turned into a series (didn't pan out, conflicting schedules with those involved), and my partner and I hired Kenneth McGregor and Victoria Gates, who played that abusive couple at 15:01. My impression was that they were a team who always worked together. At least for our project they said either both were hired or neither would get involved. We were pretty impressed with them actually, more so her. I found the Brian Cox joke about him particularly funny.

What really turns my stomach about this stupid movie is that an abusive husband doesn't need to force his wife to get an abortion. I knew a woman (my middle school best friend's step-mom) who had at least 4 miscarriages. Every time she got pregnant, her then-husband would beat her till she lost the baby. She told me how her doctor was mad at her when she became pregnant again, until she explained that she left that sicko for a new guy.

"Voiceless" is too subtle of a title for this movie, "Christian war veteran vs. baby murder factory" would have been a much more apt name, also a lot more honest in indicating what sort of film this is. Heavy-handed propaganda is more likely to repulse people than to sway them to the intended side of the argument. But then I'm not even sure if this is propaganda or a fetish film to tickle the persecution complex of the religious fundamentalists. Well, either that or a hit piece on Planned Parenthood backed by wire hanger manufacturers who feel like they are losing business. How else do you explain the message of the film targeting communities, telling them to mobilize and disrupt the activity of the centers in a bid to close them down instead of actually trying to persuade the women who use their services to consider alternatives to abortion.

I saw the thumbnail while watching something else and my jaw dropped. Hit the button knowing this was gonna be gold. I wasn't prepared for the sheer bleakness and self-sanctimonious a$$holery, despite having seen the Midnight Screening. The mindset behind this flic is beyond scary and misogynic, every single shot reminds me of the movie poster 'JCVD' and the few good moments/lines come from the people using resp. working at the clinic. This movie is dangerous, in far more ways than it realizes.

The thing I never understand about these kinds of movies: you set up your 'hero' as a psycho, you show people reacting to him realistically and thus negatively, you ignore the good done by anything you are trying to oppose while flat out mentioning it in your movie so you look like a complete heel and a hypocrite, and you end on an event which is essentially completely unrelated to the thing you oppose and would have very little realistic effect on it....... and declare victory. The thing I don't get is: does someone get PAID to make a mockery of the side trying to change your mind? It's like paying someone to hit your foot with a bat until the bone is powder, then claiming you've successfully won a moral victory against baseball.

I did a bit of math! Based on 2015 statistics from the state of Pennsylvania, the city of Philadelphia should average roughly 35 abortions per day. Furthermore according to Guttmacher Institute (admittedly pro abortion, pro Planned Parenthood) more than half of the abortion in the US are conducted in hospitals or physician offices. This would leave about 17.5 abortions per day to be carried out in abortion and women's health clinics. If this place does 5-20 per day then it literally must be the most busy/only place to get an abortion in town. Oh, and a quick Google search shows there are plenty in Philadelphia. I would berate the makers of this bullshit for not bothering to do 5 minutes of research, but they know damn well their target audience isn't going to fact check them. Such is the nature of propaganda.

It's a little scary that in all of these films, the main character is connected to some kind of literal war. They think their war obsession makes them heroes, as evidenced by all of their "culture wars" metaphors. This is probably why most of them want LGBT people banned from the military--so they can not only call themselves heroes, but being in the military would also guarantee that they were straight--at least in the eyes of others, and what they can tell themselves.
