An incredible cover from voiceplay in this one. Loved every single second. #1mannzopinion #voiceplay #soundgarden #blackholesun #coversong #reaction #critique

Great reaction! In my opinion (which is not much I admit) covers were never meant to replace but reinterpret for the times , pay homage to and even bring the original to a new audience. I think in this case mission accomplished. I actually really like what they've done and the experimental things they have been coming up with lately . So glad they take the risks others can't or won't and I for one am really enjoying the ride.

I completely agree with you. Comparing the two isn't meant to imply that I expect it to replace the original, just gives me a means of comparison.

Eli (with an assist from Layne) provided the arrangement. He also created the graphics in the background and built (with help from his family) the wall behind the group, and assembled/found the other set pieces. He directed the video as well. This was shot at Vu Studio Orlando, the same place as Valhalla Calling, but this time they had working air conditioning

I think VoicePlay's arrangements are complex enough that it really does take time to hear it all and truly absorb it. For myself, it's a frequent occurence that the first time I listen to a track it takes me off-guard, because I am so primed for all the nuances of the original. And VoicePlay is very wise in which elements of the original they preserve in their arrangements, and where they deviate into their own sound. It can take repeated listens, but I have always come around to appreciating the choices they made and the new sounds they've created. There's just so much going on at any given moment! You usually only have time to take it all in at the beginning, when the arrangements tend to be a little leaner in terms of stacked harmonies and general craziness. By the end, it's just a case of hanging on for dear life! So yeah, I can totally respect where you're coming from.

I hope you listened to the outro. They always do a karaoke track for their Patrons. Hearing all of the harmonies and the beatboxing without the lead is amazing. Great reaction. I did not know the original (old lady syndrome), so can't compare. I did listen to Steve and Edyie sing it just for comparison. And of course, no comparison, Voiceplay is fantastic!!!!!

Eli fronted rock bands in Japan and elsewhere. :) This arrangement was done by Eli and Layne. I didn't know this song previously but I like this version.

I thought it was a really good cover. I knew the original before and quite liked it, but in a more superficial way. Now voiceplay picked it up and took up the task to make it both recognisable and somehow fresh on the ears. Which I think was not an easy task. But I think they succeeded, introducing their maybe most complex arrangement so far. (Actually, @Denalicat has written already most of what I wanted to say, but better... ;) )

Geoff really hits the sub harmonics in this one... but that Growl in the background really gets to me. :D

One can hear this arrangement was done by Eli (and Layne). Something different! Eli wanted this to have a dark feel on a building roof - and he built/set-up the set that way. I, for one, love this because they always manage to elicit an emotional response that resonates with me. On the playlist it went 😉. 🌹🕊

I suspect you will enjoy this one! This one makes me think of Blade Runner. It's really good. I understand what you are saying because I had much the same reaction to Sound of Silence by Geoff. I've held Simon & Garfunkel in such high regard that it seemed almost sacrilige. But after a year of listening I told myself to put S&G up on the shelf to protect it and then love hearing Geoff do it again.

Layne already outted himself on Seven National Army. Go back and listen to that again. The very first sound he makes? That is quite clearly a transformer transforming. There were two transformers that were big into sound - Autobot Jazz and Decepticon Soundwave. Soundwave was human sized. And could replicate any sound. Tell me that doesn’t make sense. I’m not saying he is or isn’t….but I would think twice about starting crap with him. He just may have some very large and mean friends out there. 😝
