Geoff's "Black Bird" on his private channel shows pretty much his entire range from highest to lowest. i mean, technically he can do a B0 growl note, but that's not in the song, lol. i'm sure he is technically able to go even a little higher than he shows in this song as well, but being able to reach a note and being able to reach it in a way that is still pleasant to listen to, are 2 different things :)

Geoff's drop at the end of this song was B4 to E1. Three and 7/12 octaves within a few seconds. He also gets down to E1 in Blackbird. I don't know what song would have his highest note in it. Altogether, Voiceplay did four songs from Nightmate Before Christmas. For costumes, makeup and characterizations, there's those, Little Mermaid Medley, You're a Mean One Mr Grinch, and a few others. Due to Earl leaving, and to COVID restrictions, Geoff started doing solo stuff on his own YT channel last year. All but one of the songs he's put up so far involve him multitracking his own voice. So that's a good place to look to find his widest range.

Geoff is a musical machine! Haha. If you want to see another amazing performance check out the "Queen in 5 minutes" video, is amazing!!, they tell a whole story there. As per Geoff's high notes you can see his cover of "High and Dry" which is part of his solo work and with Voiceplay, at the end of their newest video, "If I were a rich man/girl" he is superb!

Geoff’s range is confirmed by himself at G#1-A5 on any given day with chest and falsetto “without straining himself.” He can go down a step on some days, though, and he uses subharmonics, a technique to lower your voice an octave on a note, to hit as low as D1. Technically, Geoff can go down to B0 but it’s not very strong or long below Eb1 or D1 because of the technique he uses (growling.) Not as high as Mitch but I think he’s actually pretty close ignoring Mitch’s whistle notes.

As far as we know, Geoff's range doesn't go as high as Mitch Grassi. Apart from some old live stuff where he goes off the rails, and that instructional video where he hits A0, A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 purely for demonstration purposes, I think the actual music video with the highest Geoff note might be Queen in 5 Minutes, at E-flat 5 ("bad mistakes, I've made a few"). The instructional video wherein he goes to A5 implies he hasn't really explored his upper limit that much, which suggests that if he stretched himself he could probably get up into the middle or top of octave 5, maybe even into the bottom of ocatve 6; but this falls short of that ridiculous "human tape recorder" nonsense Mitch does wherein he imitates squeaky marker sounds (among other things) well up into octave seven. There's no indication of Geoff being able to do anything like that. (Whereas, there's a recording of Mitch hitting a note in high octave 0, believe it or not. He's not comfortable enough down there to do it reliably or count on it for live performances, but frankly, as a countertenor, that's not his job anyway. If the basso profondo is busy doing something else for some reason, baritone Scott Hoying can hold up the low end well enough to make do, and he does, e.g., when Matt takes lead for a verse in Sound of Silence.)

The range compilations people compile ended at A5 in falsetto. I don't really care about range for the sake of range. If i get goosebumps that probably means i like it and would want that Dopamine hit again. 1st octave notes do that for me for male vocalists. 5th octave chest belts or chest dominant mixed voice for female vocalists. There are female vocalists that can hit the 1st octave but it's mostly air. Male vocalists hitting soprano notes are impressive from a technical perspective but it doesn't do it for me, they kinda sound like goats with one nasal passage clogged but lovely vibrato.

Difference between Pentatonix and VoicePlay: If Pentatonix are the high school student council, VoicePlay are the theater dorks, and Home Free are the guys in the parking lot throwing the tailgate. (And they're all great friends.)

😂😂That's pretty damn accurate! Probably why I identify more with VoicePlay at the moment 😅

Hey Jeff...really enjoy all your reactions. I'm curious though, have you ever reacted to Haley Reinhart...if not you should start off with her version of Creep (Radiohead) performed under PostModern Jukebox...absolutely amazing, then you can go from there.

Thank you! I have not heard of her. But that gives me the opportunity to learn about another artist. I'll be sure to share my reactions of that!

This is Halloween or Mr Grinch are great covers by them. Geoff's solo covers of 16 Tons and Misty Mountains Cold are also amazing. One of the best examples of Geoff's range is in their cover of The Little Mermaid Medley, when he is singing Ursula's song.
