They were totally acapella in this. All the percussion you heard was Layne, who just sounds like he swallowed a drum kit. (And lately a full synthesizer!)

It IS fully "a cappella". Layne's beatboxing skills are just out of this world. 🙂 And they kinda "own" Halloween... 😁 This year they've released two Halloween videos so far. "In the hall of the Mountain King", one of their funniest and very very creative vocal- and arrangement-wise, and "Ding dong - Hide and seek", about a week ago, which is phenomenal, especially for the season. Geoff released "Ghost Riders in the Sky" on his own "solo" channel. It deserves a check. 🙂

I'd love to see you react to their two Halloween offerings for this year: In the Hall of the Mountain King, and Hide and Seek. Both are amazing, and the first is also hilarious!

They can play instruments (Geoff plays piano in some videos of his own channel and both Layne and J.None played violins in Voiceplay's cover of Warriors), plus once or twice something was used by invited featured singers, however with these exceptions they are fully acapella. You might want to watch their Twenty One Pilot Mashup where they literally act as instruments.

Thanks for your reaction! Voice Play has the best music and videos for Halloween season so I am hoping you will react to more Voice Play and bass singer, Geoff Castellucci solo work as well for Halloween. They are doing this all acapella with some great beatboxing from Layne. They are from Orlando Florida with long time experience working for Universal and Disney theme parks including performing in 'Beetlejuice Graveyard Review' and the annual 'Halloween Horror Nights'. They take all of the details of their performance and production very seriously but have so much fun at the same time (they do all of their own production without a record label in a studio owned by beatboxer, Layne, and former member, Tony Wakim). Geoff just recently released on his solo channel "Ghost Riders In The Sky" and his "Headless Horseman" video from the past are favorites of mine. Voice Play just recently released "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" and "Ding Dong/Hide And Seek" but have a large collection of spooky themed favorites that they have released over the years.

Perfect for Halloween month. Really good. Everything they do is very polished and good. Maybe try the Grim Ginning Ghosts next or the Headless Horseman. Great Halloween songs by them

Layne is an incredible beatboxer! You definitely need to check out some more of theirs and Geoff's Halloween stuff. Voiceplay has Kidnap the Sandy Claws and What's This? from the Nightmare Before Christmas. Their cover of Friends on the Other Side is good too. Not to mention the two they just recently released; In the Hall of the Mountain King and Hide and Seek (Ding Dong). Geoff has Monster Mash, the Headless Horseman, and Ghost Riders in the Sky on his channel.

There was a bonus CD with the reissue of the original soundtrack, then another soundtrack called Nightmare Revisited where other bands played the songs. Marilyn Manson & Panic At the Disco did this one. Korn doing Kidnap the Sandy Claw is pretty good. I love Fiona Apple's version of Sally's Song.

Voiceplay also put out kidnap the Sandy Claws, Oogie Boogie song and what's this? From nightmare before Christmas. All fantastic. Along with many others. Geoff Castellucci the bass has his own channel as well where he sings solo. Also fantastic. Newest videos... Voiceplay.... In The Hall of The Mountain King. Hide and Seek (Ding Dong). Geoff.. The Rains of Castamere. Ghost Riders In The Sky. Voiceplay and Geoff are known as both The Theater Kids and Kings of Halloween. They're very diverse in what they sing and aren't afraid to go out of the box.
