Nice review. I was about to pull the trigger on the Voigtländer Nokton 1.0, but I went with the Voigtländer Nokton 1.2 instead. I's almost as fast, comparable optical performance wide open, same ability to isolate subjects, maybe even more since the minimum focus distance is 0.7 meters, it's less heavy, less bulky and easier to focus. And it's half the price!

I have both Noktons. On the 50/1.2: I learned to not code it as a 50/1.2 Noctilux. The latter shows pronounced barrel distortion. The Nokton has slight pin-cushion distortion. SO- the the Noctilux correction is applied to the Nokton, you get severe pin-cushion.

@@weisserthWithout test equipment at home, our judging lens performance is subjective (which is fine, because after all, we use lenses to create images, not MTF charts). I haven’t yet tested any of the Voigtländer APO VM lenses (I will get the 50 & 90), I can say that their wide angle non-APO lenses (15 mm Heliar, 21 mm Color Skopar, 35 mm Nokton Classic), were not as good image-quality (IQ) wise as my Leica WATE-M 16-18-21 or Summilux-M 35 FLE v1. At the time, I was more into IQ than “character”, so I sold those Voigtländer lenses. I might pick a few up again, to take advantage of their signature looks.

I was mostly referring to the how the lens itself looks like. Although I agree with your assessment on how the Canon captures photos, there is a lot of variation with the Canon lenses as the technology at that time did not allow for the same level of standardization of photo results.

This Voigtlander lens obviously does not bring up an "Lens Profile" in the Leica M10 or M10-R cameras, but perhaps you could manually compensate by selecting the profile for the Leica f/1.0 Noctilux or f/0.95 Noctilux or, if those prove too drastic, the f/1.4 Summilux.

Most of their lenses will not suit high MP cameras like the M10 or M11 which is what I Use, and after using some of the voightlanders, they can resolve more details than some of the Leica lenses that were designed exclusively for film. Even the Summilux 50 f1.4 V2 still has the old optical formula with closer focusing distance which add more softness and CA to your image. Voigtlander for me moving forward for my M10 and M11

Hey! Thanks for the comment! The Voigtlander has the contrast and, dare I say, outperforms the Noctilux in sharpness. It’s circumstantial when it comes to bokeh, the TT has better bokeh imho, but the separation isn’t as 3D as either Noct. I’d go for the voigtlander budget permitting, it’s got that glassy look that the Noctilux has, the bokeh can be a little more busy at times but it’s a remarkable lens with lovely character.

Thanks for the great review! One question I have - does it obscure the viewfinder window?
@rexgigout14722 жыл бұрын
All of these large-body, f/0.95 to f/1.0 50mm lenses will block part of what we see through the viewfinder. We cannot change the laws of physics. This Nokton f/1.0 will, indeed, block part of the viewfinder, including a substantial portion that is inside the 50mm frame lines, but, to be fair, we should compare it to such lenses as the Noctiluxes, not to the smaller 50mm lenses, with smaller maximum aperture settings. For example, the f/0.95 Noctulux, and this f/1.0 Nokton, have virtually identical diameters, but the Noctilux is 75.1mm in length, while the Nokton is 55mm in length. I do not need to put pencil to paper, to realize that the f/0.95 Noctilux will probably block somewhat more of the viewfinder. The Noctilux also weighs substantially more than this Nokton. It was the Summilux-M 50mm ASPH that first drew me into adding the Leica M system. Later I added a 50mm Summicron, for the times I wanted something a bit smaller, and did not need the faster aperture, or other optical qualities of the Summilux. Later, I added an Elmar-M 50mm lens, for the times when maximum compactness was important. (All acquired pre-owned, in order to spend much fewer US dollars.) Finally, I allowed myself the luxury of buying a new 50mm M-mount lens, and decided that it would be this “Halo” lens, from Voigtlander. This Nokton does not replace or displace any of my other 50mm lenses; each has its role. In addition to its optical qualities, my Nokton directs another stop of light, into my older M cameras, which seemed to be a better fiscal decision than acquiring an M10-R or M10 Monochrom.

Good point, I’ll include more next time 🫡

You didn't make me want to buy this lens. It's a really nice lens, but I'm just picky with bokeh and none of them are that great to me. I like an oldschool Planar/Biotar design without the new additional elements that correct a lot of aberrations but also get rid of a lot of the bokeh character making the bokeh bit too smooth and buttery for me. Love the build quality though!

Thats right!👍👍 i use planar and older distagon with canon, and they are so awesome!👌👌🫶🫶.. planar 50mm f1,7 cy t.. and distagon 28mm f2.8 cy.. that planar makes object jump out of picture🤪🤪👍

that CY Planar 50/1.7 is a classic, I've been using the 50/1.4 for many years now and still love it. It's gathering dust since I modified a Canon 50/1.2 LTM to have shorter MFD, but I'll keep it for when I move to Fuji GFX cause the Planar can cover that sensor and the Canon can't.

Won't to get one to adapt to my Sony 😊

I think the 50f1.2 Nokton is a way better choice than this. This f1.0 is extremely niche.

Im thinking about to get a m10/m10p.. but I’m Not sure if I need it 😂.. I have a Fuji x pro3 and a Sony a7iii. This just makes no sense, MF, expensive… it can’t do anything better than my other cameras. It’s limiting u very hard. But man I had it in my hand.. this feels so good in hand. It’s just this. I don’t know 🤷🏻♂️

I can’t see the crazy good colors you see. In fact that is where the Leica lenses shine. Much more pleasing and natural. No I won’t buy this lens.

Your review makes me wonder if we used the same lens. I’m with Ken Rockwell, it’s garbage.
@GenericPhotographer2 жыл бұрын
Hmm the bokeh could be the only thing it could improve on. Calling it garbage is a bit too extreme, are you sure you’re not referring to his 50 f1.1 review?

@@GenericPhotographer Yes its the 1.1 which Rockwell is ref`ing to .
@GenericPhotographer2 жыл бұрын
@@absonus figured, couldn’t find anything from him on this newer lens…in which case we clearly didn’t use the same lens.

COIGTLANDER IS PRONOUNCED 'FOTLSNDER CORECTLY ! f_1 with digital is lessuseful, averagely, than with film. its almost a 'special effects' lens -wafer.thin DOF. - so sharpness is comprimised often. a paid-for promo for sure.
