I used to have a Magicjack and liked it. Early version had some issues with dropping calls, newer version was much better. My wife didn't care for it so I stopped using it. I wouldn't mind going back to it but the cable companies have it set up so that if you don't get their triple play bundle, TV, phone, and internet, you won't save much money just getting TV and internet only.

Once you give up copper you will never get it back. Change your broadband provider is the same, you lose your copper forever. The ideal is fibre plus copper…FTTC which usually gives a broadband speed of 50Mb/s which is ample for most used except if you have kids who use on line games. FTTP will give you much higher bit rate but you lose the copper. Broadband is also usually the most expensive package followed by the entertainment package followed by the Talk which by far the cheapest yet the most important. If you do not use the mobile phone much and leave it lying around you will miss calls but a copper line provided ring bell loud and clear around your house. Why be attached to a mobile phone 24/7….Get a life! The best option is FTTC, then you have all the options. Better still is copper plus FTTP then you have hit the jackpot!

I gave up the landlines 20 years ago, I do miss the phone on my desk, and more importantly that satisfaction of slamming the phone down on spam calls, I do not think the cell enhances our live we are prisoners to the tech

Landlines do not emmit the radiation that cell phones do. Call logs can't be as easily traced as on a cell phone.
