this is by far the most useful source i have found. please keep it up .Danish is pointless, impractical, hard on the ear and the vocal chords, and unnecessarily difficult, but you make it a joy to engage with.

These videos are such a great addition to my Danish classes. I am so grateful that you posted them, so easy to understand. Thank you, thank you!! Would be great to have them all subtitled in English, I am not sure if it's something automatic that KZbin does or you do...

Hi Shawn, Thanks for your comment. I have been thinking about doing videos in english. There might come a few in the autumn. There is a significant difference between y and ø. you hold the same lip position when pronouncing both (rounded lips). Start with the y (maybe stop the video there, and make sure you got it right), when you go on to ø, you lower your tongue just slightly...You could also try to open your month a little bit at the same time.I don't know if this is any help to you?

Thank you, it's is actually what I've been doing all this time, so it's nice to hear from a Dane that I've been doing it right, but I still can't tell much significant difference between the two. Is there any difference in where the sound is articulated in your mouth, or is it really just the result of your tongue being slightly lower?

Hey. I don't speak Danish well enough to understand your videos yet, although I do get the jist of what you're saying at some points. My question is: what's the pronunciation difference between ø and y? They sound very similar; I can definitely hear a difference, but I'm not sure what that difference is (whether it's a change in the position of the tongue, or pitch of the voice, etc). Mange tak.

Is the Danish ø closer to the German or Swedish ö? It sounds more German. I know in German it's a tight lip rounding and Swedish seems more open. I'll be in Denmark on the 1st of August for two weeks. I'm an American living in Germany and speak German fluent. I have tried to learn Swedish and know bits of it. It did help in Stockholm reading a menu at a cafe. I'll be in Denmark on the 1st of August for two weeks. So I tend to look to Swedish to give me a hint on pronouncing Danish as they are both Scandinavian languages.

***** I'm back and loved it. So now I have been to Denmark, Sweden and Iceland although that doesn't count as I was only in the Reykjavik airport. I have tried learning Swedish off and on for the last 20 years. In the beginning I had a book and a cassette but rarely ever used the cassette. Now a days, I find iPhone app great as you hear how it's pronounce. So for many years I used German rules on Swedish vowels. Then found things like the Swedish e is more like the English e than the German. Although the English in Scandinavia and Holland is super, it still helps to read some text. Like parking, when I could read 2 Timer as it was close to Timmar. I also tried picking up Icelandic but I'm much too lazy to really concentrate on it. I can ask where is my luggage and count to 20 (sometimes). Jag älskar Danmark! I could have done it in Danish but again I'm more familiar with Swedish. Oh I love the cities of Copenhagen and Stockholm.

LOL it's hard. Let's see if I'm correct: The Y sounds like our U, the ø sounds more like an U from troath, but if I open more mouth make a O alike sound that's the [] right?
