I took my 10 year old son to his 1st Volbeat concert. He just turned 18, We have been to many Volbeat concerts since then. We live in Fargo ND and im so glad these guys come all the way up here. It's not particularly bad. It just kinda sounds ok. Has a, what we in germany call "Volksmusik" (folk music) kinda vibe. Volksmusik nowadays is basically generic, mostly conservative german pop music for old people. And thats how that song feels like. Really missing the "punch" Volbeat usually has. I know they have gotten "softer" over the years but they still have it. The Devil's Bleeding Crown proved that to me. Anyway. Gonna check out the album nontheless. Hopefully it will be better.

To everyone saying their old music is better or insulting the new stuff I've heard they said themselves that they aren't tied to a specific genre. They take inspiration from a huge variety of artists from Elvis to Metallica, etc What they play comes from the heart and what they *feel* If you don't like it then sorry. Listen to their older albums if you want. But I don't see what other people mean when they say they've lost their sound. I’ve heard them referred to as “Elvis metal.” Go back in time, grab some 50s Elvis and Jerry Lee and Buddy Holly mixed with some do-wop and early 60s pop, metalize it, and this is what it would sound like. The early rockers knew a thing or 2 about writing catchy tunes.

I've played guitar for 20 years, and I get sick of just chugging along on E, you've got to play something else eventually. A lot of early VB songs were very simple and boring to play.

@@brian99xt well, all heavy metal album has a soft song, that's sort of a tradition! I completely agree with you that early VB songs we're a bit boring with no solos, but it was heavy. Now they have Rob for that too. But c'mon take OG&SL album as an example (great album) you have "Black Bart", "Nameless One", "Dead But Rising", "Hangman's body count", "Doc Holiday(masterpiece!!!)" plus others that are true to their origins with Rob's twist, great songs. But then there's "My Body", "Lola Montez", "Pearl Heart (meh)" which to me do not make justice to them. Then came StD&LB album the majority are very soft songs with only two songs that remind me of old VB ("Devil's Bleeding Crown" and "Loa's Crossroad"). Now this new album (RRR) we have "Parasite", "Leviathan" and "Everlasting" so far, which to me are only alright to me, sorry. I hope the rest of the album is heavier!!! I WANT HEAVY!!! By saying that, can't wait to seem them again in Aarhus next month \,,/_

@@brian99xt I agree with your statement and my old band did alot of volbeat and I agree when you play something the same over and over it gets boring and that usually leads to bands splitting up because they can't get out of the same old rut. I've been a volbeat fan for 10 years I have all there albums they are amazing tbh but going a new direction to a degree is good every now and then plus there can based could also be getting alot younger and they want as many as possible. But anyway volbeat for life bruh

In the Old Testament, Leviathan is a giant sea creature that only God is capable of killing. When the time comes for God to make paradise on Earth, he will slay it and serve its flesh as a feast for humanity. I assume the song is parallel to that story, but instead God is asking his old friend and early creation to inspire fear and action so that we might bring about paradise. That in itself, a metaphor for Leviathan, king of creatures (Man) to wake up and stop sleeping doing what needs to be done to make the world a better place. This is my first time hearing the song and checking the lyrics, I might be way off lol.
