I can talk about meanings of songs too. Volbeat sounds good on the radio dont get me wrong. They are just your average cookie cutter band. Im going to see them live in may, and i cant wait. Like i said, i enjoy the music, i just know corporate songs when i hear them. And they have a lot of them.
@garrettcannon2120
@garrettcannon2120 7 жыл бұрын
Richard Deraway this isn't true at all. listen from album to album, each album has a unique feel and style, with different meanings exclusive to that album. Their first two are very hardcore metal rebellious rock songs. Outlaw Gentlemen has an almost Marty Robbins western cowboy feel to it. Guitar Gangsters has a very country johnny cash feel, and has a story that runs through the album and into the next two. Beyond Hell/Above Heaven is an extremely heartfelt album charged by the emotion of the loss of his father, and that dark and heavy emotional atmosphere hangs over the album. Their latest album seems to be filled with extremely catchy rock anthems, and experimentation with things outside their wheelhouse. When you really listen, you hear just how outside the box they are

Alexandre Batalha i don't understand why being popular is bad.thats not bad.volbeat is an unique band (otherwise i'd already know their music sound from other bands and i know many bands).i don't care if a band changes their sound beacause they should do what they want to do and Michael Schon Poulson sayd in an interview that he wanted to make somthing different from dominus.also why should a band alway make the same music?
@AlexandreBatalha_Sharkuel
@AlexandreBatalha_Sharkuel 10 жыл бұрын
Raven Lehmann you made quite a redundant question. My argument isn't because they are famous (i actually knew them through Dominus), but that they nowadays make effortless music, similar to many others who want an easy cash in by sacrificing their creativity for some extra dolla-dolla bling. So they sound unique, you say? Well, i am not Northern American, but southern pop/rock music is somewhat of a thing there, and they aren't bringing nothing new to the game. Maybe you just find them unique because that is the only band you know of the same genre?!!! lol And no, i actually don't think artists should make the same kind of music (look Iron Maiden, for example, same old music for more than 30 years), but they as should always try to surpass their previous work, and then there are band/artists that like Volbeat, and Linking Park, had a more personified sound, and sacrificed it just to sound less harsh and more mainstream. They stopped playing for their musicianship, but more for their wallet. You have successful examples that can manage that, and still maintain their quality in the composing department, like Opeth, or Anathema, or in a more extreme case, Ulver and Scott Connor (Xhastur and Nocturnal Poisoning), who were heavy as hell in their beginnings, and now are more lighter sounding, but at the same time, more complex and rich composition-wise. With Volbeat unfortunately it doesn't happen, they dumbed down, make more basic songs. Im sorry if this isn't easy for any Volbeat fan to read, but a melodic voice simply doesn't make it a better band if you back it up with basic pop"ish" instrumentals.

This song hits completely differently now that I'm sober and loving myself. Used to think my ex was the devil and the cause of all the problems, quickly found out that wasn't the case. After that I got hooked to chemicals, then thought I was the devil for a very long time. Turns out, we were both humans, going through life and handling it the only way we knew how. I'm super proud of my ex now and me, and looking forward to the next chapter.

An old review I wrote for this album back when I used to write for a bunch of magazine... For CWG - Volbeat - Beyond Hell / Above Heaven - September, 2010 Volbeat is at the forefront, the goddamn infernal headcharge of their own colorful, uncompromised revolution. To blast anything less would lend no credence to what the band has done in such a short time. Forming in 2001 and this, their fourth studio album, is undoubtedly the heaviest, grooviest, domineering standard of their intensely original sound. Already in some circles: Metal, Punk, Rockabilly, and the classic feelers that refuse to let go of that Old Time Rock ‘N Roll, they are peeling back the eyelids of suspended brilliance and letting loose the winds of change, and with Beyond Hell / Above Heaven, I know that their time has come to literally define a new era in Rock. Volbeat truly is that magnificent. Very few times in my life have I listened to an album such as Beyond Hell / Above Heaven and felt some weighty sensation of a love renewed for that life-changing thing most of us hold so dear to our hearts: Music. My only regret is that I did not grab hold of this Danish quartet sooner. The three albums released previous to Beyond Hell / Above Heaven (no reference to any religious beliefs, simply an ongoing theme continued from the prior album Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood) are each incredible in their own right, and given enough time, booze, tats, and wind in my newly slicked-back greasy hair, I’ll get to laying my literary chops into them, but for now, we’ll fire em’ up, feel the groove, and gallop on towards that age old rockin’ commotion that Volbeat has brought back with absolute intensity. Beyond Hell / Above Heaven is an extraordinary album, without a doubt one of this year’s best, and with that sentiment, it was so amazing from beginning to end that I dove in and picked up their first three albums without listening to a note beforehand… All of which are worth having in their own right. As a thousand quotes have already promised, Volbeat is a slick fusion of Metal, Rockabilly, elements of Punk, and they hold the ageless standard of Rock ‘N Roll. What’s rarely touched upon is the thick emotion that is relentlessly pursued, whether the track be a righteous example of Heavy Metal such as Who They Are, a perfect stream of that blend of Slayer and Shadows Fall, or whether the track is a freight train of Du Wop Punkabilly (Punkabilly is copyrighted term created by the literary Zen Savage, Jamie Sean Lardner!) such as 16 Dollars, or even the smiling-time poppy sing-a-long Magic Zone. No matter the genre of the track, singer and guitarist Michael Poulsen puts forth a distinctive stream of vocal tones that are both massively stylistic and have a dynamic gruel worthy of any sketchy back room or smoky pool hall that one could drunkenly stumble into. Tracks such as the album’s attack of an opening, The Mirror And The Ripper, with its bluesy slides, an all appealing, near teary-eyed scream of a chorus, and Heavy Metal double-xxx-bass groove, along with the drunken emotional call of Being 1, with its raw Punkabilly feel, acoustic verse melancholy, and short stature that truly weighs on one’s heart, are phenomenally prime examples of Volbeat’s musical prowess. Epic, and not said lightly. With the fire of emotion in the wind, Fallen is undoubtedly to be ascribed. The longest track on the album, Fallen is a straight Rock ’N Roll piece chalked full of quickly-paced screams of the near Danzig and Morrison style, moving and true. A radio hit if ever Beyond Hell / Above Heaven has one to appeal to the masses… Righteous solo, killer beat, solid groove, and all along with that bleeding heart that Michael Poulsen projects. With those mentioned, I still recommend them all, every goddamn track... Along with booze, an ivory-skinned woman of decisive colorful tattoos abound in any number of Betty Page getups, a quick thrash on some open road on the back of a wild, bored-out hog or flame-throttled roadster… Pop the top, down the gullet, shine the two tones, grease the hair back and let loose. That’s the only way. Volbeat is much more than a distinct Rock ‘N Roll band. They have tapped into something brand new in its entirety, something so goddamn originally refreshing that the only way to honestly explain it all is a mesh of words… A whiskey-fueled fusion of Elvis, The Misfits, Johnny Cash, Metallica, The Stray Cats, Dropkick Murphys, Danzig, Jerry Lee Lewis, Megadeth, The Ramones, Rebel Meets Rebel, Social Distortion, and so on. Truly, not enough can be said the vast winds of Rock that Volbeat blows in all directions. Be it Blues, Punk, or the drunken hymn of a hundred angry greasers. Everyone will dig Volbeat, and especially Beyond Hell / Above Heaven for its purity, its groove, its ability to not only be heartfelt on nearly every track, but to uncompromisingly dive into every branch on the Tree Of Rock without hesitation, and with excellence.

from the interview on espy rock Michael said this about this song: "Heaven Nor Hell’ is a rock song that tells a story about a guy who one day sold his soul to the devil but he actually ended up stealing it back and therefore was in debt to the devil. Since he did not believe in heaven nor hell, because he has seen the devil become an angel and otherwise, he doesn’t really need any of them because he had found peace within himself. He doesn’t need any direction to where he is going. So the song is very much about a guy who is struggling with his demons and has angels on his shoulders." I thout I'd share that tidbt of info with all of ya. Peace sukkas

The bands people were asking everyone not to stand too close to Michael as he was sick, and they had him wrapped up, trying to protect his voice for the next gig.
