I must ask besides the duvet cover, How do you find sleeping under your wing more comfortable?
@TimPentreath6 ай бұрын
More comfortable than a sleeping bag? Not really, I now use a down quilt - see www.aliexpress.com/item/32947386631.html

Hi tim im not a paraglider. But if you want an ultralight cooking setup look into fancee feast alcohol stove with a titanium pot and ti windscreen. 3 or 4 oz for all. And also cuban fiber tents. Great video. A sport i am considering!!

Hi Tim, I just stumbled onto your vids. Excellent! I like a man who approaches vol biv as if it was a competition, complete with low saves and errm, downwind landings to eek out that last meter. My question is, again, around the weight thing. I am, butt naked, 90kg. I just ordered a new wing for XC and maybe some vol biv, although I am 60 and maybe getting past it. Anyway, the weight range of my new and large Gin Camino is 95 - 120kg, so full on vol biv would be near the top of the weight range. Which answered my question I guess. But you didn't include ground coffee beans in your calcs. Thanks for this vid though! You gave me a nice list of what you carried and how much it weighed all up. Also a good lesson on how vol biv should be, with coffee, beer, small towns and nice scenery. Leaving the rough top landings and sweaty hikes to the young ones. I look forward to watching all the rest of your videos :)

Peter Elliott Hi Peter, thanks for your comments, enjoy the rest of the vids! My volbiv kit including 2-3 litres water is approx 10kg over my normal XC kit weight which puts me a couple of kg over the top of my OXA3 weight range, but that’s no problem. The Camino has a bigger weight range anyway so I think you’ll be well within the max. Are you UK based? Check out the UK Vol Biv Pilots Facebook group if so... I’m thinking about organising a volbiv rally from St André up to Chamonix this summer if you’re interested...

Tim, I have a question regarding the solar-panel of Anker. What's your opinion about this solar-panel? What do you like/dislike about it?
@TimPentreath4 жыл бұрын
Hi Michiel, good question...! Likes - seems to charge well, two USB ports, well made Dislikes - it would be nice if the cable stowage pocket had a zip so you could zip up a battery in the pocket whilst charging it without worrying that it's going to fall out. I'm tempted to buy the three panel version because my new GoPro Hero 8 uses more power than my old camera...

Hey Tim, me - and I guess many others - find massive value in your vids. Many of us are interested oin how we can pursue our passions, passions that don’t mesh easily with a 9 -5 job. I would like to financially contribute to your Odyssey- so you can push the boundaries and we can learn from your stuff. Please link to a website were we can support you (not patreon). I love all aspects of your videos... but you talking about your XC decisions in the air is gold. When cutting between scenes ... like bottom of a thermal to top of a thermal if you could make the transition when you’re facing in the same direction it would improve the vids.
@TimPentreath5 жыл бұрын
John Norman Hi John, thanks for your comments. I had considered a Patreon page but figured that it’d probably not be worth it, but maybe nothing chanced, nothing gained. I’ll look into it again... I do try to do what you advise when editing a bottom to top thermal clip, but sometimes some slip through the net, as must have happened on this occasion... Good luck with your travels!

Hi there! Great vid indeed. Thanks for making it. Could I ask how you feel about that tent? I could do with something lightweight myself
@TimPentreath4 жыл бұрын
Marty Hi Marty, thanks for your comments. I think the tent is fine for non-extreme weather. It’s well made, and once I added some sealant to an area of a seam that was leaking, it’s now completely waterproof. Mine is just the single skin version so it does get condensation inside, but I’ve not found it a problem. I’m 193cms and 87kgs and it’s big enough for me. All my kit fits in the “porch” area too. Overall I’m very pleased with it and I don’t have any plans to replace it any time soon.

Hello Tim, Well done for you flights & thank you for your movie ! Question : How do you charge your Radio battery ? Is-it possible with the Anker + adaptator... ? (I have a kenwood TH22)
@TimPentreath4 жыл бұрын
Hi Michel, good question - I didn't bother to bring a charger for my radio as I reckoned it would last about a week if I was careful, however it did run out on the big flight from La Sambuy. You can get an adaptor to power your radio battery stand via USB - here's a link: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07952G6KT

When I go normal XC flying my kit weighs about 12-13kg with instruments, spare battery, camera, a sandwich and a bit of water - volbiv kit with 2.5-3litres water and food for a few days adds about another 10kg, so I’m slightly over the top of the 110kg weight range of the OXA3 24
@safranpollen5 жыл бұрын
ThanX Tim , that means normaly ya flying a little bit below mid loading at around 91-92 kg. I thought this machine should mostly be loaded close at the top...
@TimPentreath5 жыл бұрын
Safranpollen Goldfish No, for normal flying my all up weight is about 102-103kg
@safranpollen5 жыл бұрын
soory of course 10 kilos less , slightly below mid loading

Safranpollen Goldfish the weight range is 95-110 so 102-103 is right in the middle...

Very informative, thanks a lot! Could you show how you use you wing as sleeping bag?
@TimPentreath5 жыл бұрын
It’s less of a sleeping bag than a duvet actually... see share.icloud.com/photos/0kKSNhsu-JCcpy4SojFpDuUNw Lay the concertina bag alongside your air bed against the side of the tent, open it up enough to pull out 2m of wing, then pull out from the wingtip which has the lines on top, and fold over itself until you have enough layers to keep warm - I needed 6, so 12 layers of actual material! Works well though and you don’t get tangled in the lines

@@jeanregina222 Hi Jean, take a look here www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0vJRveFpJRuOIO. I didn't bother with the homemade sheet/duvet this year once my friend Richard showed me this method - extra weight for no benefit...

Peter Bienek Hi Peter, you suppose right 👍🏻 I think it all came to about 112-113kgs, so I was flying slightly over the 110kg max weight. It still climbed really nicely at that weight even on the less strong days... (eg. Day 4)
