my quartet is learning this for solo ensemble and lemme tell u those arpeggios with the tenor and bari are NOT A JOKE (edit: UPDATE, we earned Division 1 at both regional and state solo & ensemble with this piece. we had a high school freshman who filled in for our alto who dropped on about 2.5 months notice. she worked diligently to learn the piece and performed incredibly with us seniors, earning the nickname “bionic freshman” from the judge at regionals. This piece is great memory and a great accomplishment for all of us.

@@Kachigaz The back in forth actually make it easier. I think in this piece it's for range purposes, but composers typically split figures like that up between parts, especially in the band setting.

Nothing special, just a VI chord in F minor (Db major). It only stands out because we haven't had a major chord with the full quartet yet.

Some people tend to feel a difference with different materials -- I believe Tim McAllister has a video of himself on youtube going to some Selmer factory and trying out a bunch of different necks to see which one sounds the best and gives the most overtones.
