I am so glad the animals are being evacuated too. It may seem lightly humorous to have 50,000 chickens to rescue; however, in Iceland, agriculture is a precious enterprise. Every creature matters in the health and welfare of the larger whole of Iceland.

@@marytyson7890 WTF didn't YOU understand that most of the town is off limits for these operations and that there are still animals left behind in those parts? Also even if they get rescued, they have nowhere to go, because emergency shelters are off limits to them and Icelanders are quite hostile towards renting something to someone with pets (why, when little children cause much more damage and tenant is always responsible for that).... I hope at least in this crisis they will manage to pull their heads from their greedy asses and make places available. P.S. the rental market is insane here (expensive and nothing available because of AirBnbs) and there are loads of greedy multiple property owners who rent out their property just from October to May and in the turistic season they change it to Airbnb and don't give a shit. I do hope the animals of Grindavik Will be OK.

So.e people were out fishing when the Report went out that they needed to evacuate. They just had the clothes on their backs. If they happened to be out of the city when the call came, they probably wouldn't be allowed in. Usually cats don't come when you call, and especially if they are outside a mile down the road hunting for.mice and birds.

Thank you for giving us such an impressive, but also troubled insight. Both for geologists and for the concerns, fears and worries of the inhabitants of Grindavik. We hope for the inhabitants that there will be no eruption and that the magma chamber will retreat again. Nevertheless, it seems to be a tense place for the future - geologically speaking. Liegt es vielleicht daran, dass sie ständig mit der bedrohung leben? Das kann es nicht sein, dann sähe New York, LA, Detroit oder jedes andere Slum anders aus. Ich weiss es nicht... I wonder if it is because it's a smaller community and everyone is probably in the same financial level. I saw a lot of people helping others during the pandemic here in Utah. Someone set up a Facebookpage wheree people could ask for something they couldn't find in the stores. They could post what they had extras of. People made masks for free and distributed them. A larger church here distributed food, just for the asking and you didn't need to be a member of that church. Some churches still distribute food once a week in their parking lot.

Oh, my - thank you so much for the fascinating update - interesting in the sense of what is being done to help Grindavík residents as much as possible. I'm relieved to know people were allowed to get livestock away to safety...and what pets were reachable. I also understand why, sadly, others are not allowed to retrieve pets because of the worst danger zone. Whether the pet owners agree or not, and I'm sure many would risk it - I sure would - but human life is more important, so the authorities must choose human safety. This reminds me of the aftermath of 9/11 in NYC. So many pets were left in apartments, because owners were at work, but then no one was allowed anywhere near the area for many days.
