never judge a GTI with stock power. The .2.0 tsi engine in the GTi is severely under tuned and just requires a 600 dollar ecu flash to tune it to an additional 50hp and 75Ib/ft of torque. Then it will keep pace with a focus st and also have the much better interior and ride quality.

@@aaronsaju9766 Been very reliable in my opinion. The freaking battery lasted like 12 years. Worst engine issue it had was an intake manifold that needed to be replaced. Only other problem was the headliner came lose and had to be replaced.

That's a very nice summery of the Golf GTI at the end (including the current mk7). Yes you can get hot hatches with more power for the same amount of money (if not less). Yes the Golf looks bland compared to its rivals. But the point of the Golf GTI is that it has all the power you need for every day use. It can be quiet and comfortable if you drive it slow around town. But if you take it to a A or B road then it has all the power you need to put a smile on your face around the bends and overtake with ease. Really you only need the extra power from a Ford ST or Civic Type R if you're on a track. In the real world you won't be able to go much faster than the GTI and you're be paying a lot more for petrol for it.

If there's one thing I've learned about fast Vauxhalls, it is that although they come with very powerful engines that propel them at high speeds, everything else on the car makes them pretty much undriveable. No thanks, the GTI is the car to go for.

Sometimes it's what you don't do that stands out. The Golf/GTI doesn't drastically change its design with each model. It's a car you look at from a distance and you immediately know what it is. It's beautiful in that it stands out without trying to stand out. Very few cars are that distinguishable without making outlandish designs. It's a mature looking car with a great history and is still top of its class by sticking to its roots.

I am 49 years old and I have A DSG GTI Edition 35 and every single milimetre of it is excellent. Although I must admit I don't like the rims in Matt's review car. The 18" Watkins Glenn alloys on my car look much more grown up than the 19" Glendales on display here

Love the style of the this Mk6. I honestly think it's difficult to really justify spending the extra cash getting the new Mk7 when it comes out. Any extra power to be desired, or even a mechanical LSD, can be had in the aftermarket.

VW GTI and GOLFs are nice cars, I wish they were a little wider. However, the maintenance is also expensive. I almost bought the GTI. The sales manager said' "I give it to you for ZERO INTEREST and the first payment will be after 90 DAYS." I am still thinking about it.

GTI any day. It is considerably quicker (more power and torque), has nicer interior and exterior, etc. etc. Plus it is turbocharged, which is always fun ;)

Us who are older than the younger "kids" the GTI is hands down the best hot hatch around, at least in the states. I just traded off my 2012 CC for a Ram truck. I always enjoyed my 3 GTIs. My 86' 8V, my 92 16V and 02 1.8T. Wish I could afford a new one along with my truck

I have a 2011 model never had an issue. Driving it like it's meant to be driven. Up the wall. And still starts on a dime. Feels much much faster than when I bought it. Tuned it to stage 2. Upgraded exhaust and diverter valve by choice. Still feels like the day I bought it. Sitting at 140 000km. It's never seen a mechanic.

@@alanconnolly2777 if you find an owner that looked after it mileage shouldn't be a problem. The motors are pretty strong. The only issues It can really have is Cam chain tensioner. Intake manifold. Or waterpump leak. Seldom though

Really nice car the Golf Mk.6, it's true that the power that it produces is nothing spectacular but it's enough to put a smile on your face. In terms of design for me this one looks better than an ST for example, especially in the interior.

I'm thinking either this, a r36 passat, a v6 fsi passat or a gt86/frs. I've been driving for three years now, and I'm coming from something like a 85 hp ride lol, but it was incredibly light and a manual so it was fun. If I go to an auto passat will I miss the manual and chuckableness? Or will the power just make up for it? Thanks guys

GTI's are pretty good. I love the interior, but I would never go cloth seats. Leather is much better IMO.

I prefer the leather for sex so its easy to clean, but cloth I prefer more because its more comfortable and it won't rip up like the cheap leather they put on certain luxury vehicles only downfall to cloth is that its hard to clean up stains or so. I hate when I stick to the seat or when its too hot the car becomes a death trap in the leather material. But that's just me(: you have your reasons

I have to disagree. Yes the leather is better and more luxurious, easier to clean etc. that being said! The plaid base seats are so god damn comfortable and look almost... sexy... idk the leather is obviously pretty great, but something about the gti base cloth seats is just fricken awesome
