Car prices are just crazy now. In the UK, that city car is almost at the luxury car tax threshold. But manufacturers know the private market doesn't have that kind of money and most will use finance to 'own' the car, which hides the true eye watering amounts people are actually spending.

2 months ago I ordered a new T-Cross 1.5 tsi dsg, life plus equipment package. Tinted windows, reversing camera, keyless start, metallic paint, 17-inch alloy wheels, etc., that's all in the equipment package, and another 3,000 euros of additional equipment on top of that. The final price is 26,000 euros. In Croatia, VW lowered the price of the T-cross after the facelift. As far as I can see in the reviews, the prices of this car in Europe are brutal. For the price of this test T-Cross, you can buy a new Tiguan in Croatia. Its price starts from 35,000 euros.

Same here! Mine was just under 24k, with 750€ of extras. We're not joking. The 1.5 TSI DSG Life Plus starts here just under 23k. Go to the croatian configurator if you don't believe us.

In Slovenia, prices start at 25k, and for that price you can get EVs. The point of these cars is to be small, cheap and just shitboxes, but they are not cheap, tho they are awfully made. Sad

Yeah, basic 70kW Life model starting for 19.999€, including 6 years / 150.0000 km full warranty. C3 Aircross, MG ZS and Dacia Sandero Stepway are the only similar cars cheaper than T Cross in Croatia. Hyundai Bayon and Kia Stonic more or less same price adjusting motorisation and equipment. Captur, Puma, 2008, Yaris Cross, Juke, Mokka, Avenger, even Kamiq and Arona costing more than T Cross.

I have a friend that bought one of the first gen t-cross and she complained a lot that even though it has 7 speeds it uses way too much fuel (she claimed about 8l/100) and that is just insane, specially with the cost of life we have today.

I disscussed todays car prices with my Toyota dealer when the new C-HR was released back in december... His thought on it are that the car companies are targeting private lease before private sale. The monthly lease prices are usually quite low compared to buying and repaying a new car these days. I'm not sure if private lease are big in europe as in Sweden. But at least that was his thought on the high prices.
@MarekDrivesENG3 ай бұрын
Depends on the country and on the brand. I recently spoke to an acquaintance, who's got a private lease on a C5 Aircross and pays something like 200 euro a month. While I understand the short-to-medium-term appeal of such leasing deals, I'm not sure about the long-term effects. Someone's going to end up with a lot of 2 year old stock that nobody will want, because it's cheaper to lease new for peanuts.

I just dont understand how VW can justify the price incerase for this model, its definitely a downgrade over the outgoing one. The infotainment display is already 7 years old with some new features in it, and VW called it "new". It just gets worse. The AC panel is just slaped there and they called it a day, same with the digital instrument panel. For this kind of money, I don't expect aliexpress digital instrument tunings as factory, but as the car world changes this is much more common that it used to be. I'm not even going to analyze the exterior "changes". It really is a cash grab. Although I would like to thank you for making this informative video. ❤

I live in Bulgaria - a shithole country in SE Europe. Everything is expensive here, and second hand is no exception. I recently bought a 2007 BMW X5 (E70) for ~9000 EUR). I have to invest ~2000 EUR more to get it up to speed the way I want it to be. That's 11000 EUR for a 15+ year car. I am doing all of this through a loan. The loan is for 5 years, and my monthly installment can get me a brand-new Citroen C4 something (a puffed-up hatch that looks a bit like C-HR). I still don't know if it's worth it to forego the niceties that come with the car I got (bigger, more comfortable, much much much faster, etc.) for the sake of peace of mind. With the price of this T-Cross, though, it seems my decision was made already - just not by me. These prices are all stupid, and I'm not buying new until they normalize.
