Really surprised by the interior plastics. Usually every single VW has soft touch on the dashboard and upper doors. Although I must say it is pointless having a soft touch dashboard since you don't drive around touching it. It is more important to have soft touch plastics on the upper door perhaps where you would rest your arm or lower down by your leg where it touches the center panel.

VW says they did it on purpose because they didn't want T-Roc to compete with Golf. But they just went too far, interior quality is much worse than in the Polo. Soft touch plastics do matter everywhere - they look better, they're less reflective, they don't rattle or squeak and on the upper doors you may actually touch them.

Yes, a very helpful and to the point review. Thanks Matt. Regarding rough road capability, I've noticed that the T-Roc has relatively minimal ground clearance, in fact less than the T-Cross. I think that I understand VW's rationale but potential buyers need to be aware of this limitation.
@TenPester Жыл бұрын
People often ask in videos, what the point of this car is. I play Golf, and at one point I had a Tiguan R-Line and a Golf R. The golf clubs didn't fit in the boot of the Golf, but they fit in the Tiguan, but the Tiguan was terribly slow (150 BHP R-Line), and the clubs had to go in the back seat of the Golf, so this T-Roc with the 445 litre boot would do the job nicely, and the 2.0 TSi is quicker than the Tiguan. So I don't wreck my back seats, or loose my license. I can still get the shopping in the boot, and enjoy a spirited drive when i'm late for my tee off time.

The interior quality is definitely something that hasn’t been touched upon properly with the motoring press and MQB-based cars. My Mk7.5 Golf interior quality is noticeably less plush than the Mk6 and Mk5 that I’ve experienced in the past - same for my parents’ Octavia RS230. The Tiguan is particularly bad and feels quite cheap - yet the Kodiaq doesn’t feel anywhere near as cheap, and has much better sound insulation and manages to feel much less hollow than other MQB-based cars.

Why do you always comment about soft-touch plastics on the dash? Like when do you ever touch your dash board? What moves the wheels , how suspension is designed , overhead cam single or double , timing belt or chain , diesel maintenance and extra added dpf ? Everyone is always on about interior materials? The reason why the dash is not soft plastic is because of SUN damage. More glass means more rays and over the years a soft dash will start to peel away, especially around the Air bag units. Harder, tougher dash means longevity. So from that point of view, it is more like a practical SUV. In fact, the harder wearing material is more expensive. But these days we want everything to look smooth and silky i.e fake and not practical.

Not a VW fan, but I'm glad you finally did the center console test to a car that does pass! It's not fair to blame Koreans and French if you don't do the same test on other manufacturers.

Hard plastic dash on the range topper? Don't say this is a sign of things to come for the Golf. Any hard plastic dash on a new golf and I won't be bothering with it. It's clearly built for those who want style over substance, everything goes into the exterior looks.

Audi Q2 similar size with same cost cutting hard plastics.
@justsomeguy706 жыл бұрын
i have q2 and it really does have soft touch plastic all around except at the bottom of the door. But i think t rock comes with more standard equipment than q2. I tried them both and q2 feels a little bit sporty and certanly looks that way.

justsomeguy70 Carwow review pointed out the hard plastic in the middle of the doors kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWmaf5uBgMeJbdU
@justsomeguy706 жыл бұрын
yes, youre right! that panell in the middle is hard, but above the steering wheel and on the doors at the top it is soft. In my opinion soft plastic makes sene ond the top of the doors where people ret ther hands, and above the steering wheel (kind of..) . The rest of it doesnt bother me so much.

Matt you keep on going on about soft vs hard plastics, but sometimes it doesn't matter, I dont think vw did it to save some pennies, I have a golf 7 with a soft dash but this cars dash looks just as nice if not better.

Matt aways bangs on about "Brittle" plastics the definition of brittle is "hard but liable to break easily." most of the plastics on these cars are hard but I'm pretty sure they are hard wearing too and I bet they are pretty hard to break.

Got to be blunt. This car is pretty pointless. Yes it may have good looks and storage, but if you want head room buy a golf sv. If you want space you would buy the golf Estate. Poor scratchy plastics and a cheap feel let this down, very disappointing vw.
@ellhem40166 жыл бұрын
Claas 650 golf sv’s are one of the ugliest cars I’ve ever seen...
@poplaurentiu41486 жыл бұрын
You not even go test this car yourself and already make silly assumptions.. yes the SV is indeed a good modular and more practical car than standerd normal Golf but can it go off road ? yes the Variant (Estate) is much roomy on space but it do not have the ground clearance of this T-Rock not even in Alltrack version and the angles of attack front and rear are far superior on T-Rock +not even mentioning that if you add some proper good BF-Goodrich tires it can go pretty much everywhere.. so, i think you judge this car based only by some pieces of hard plastic because in the rest functionality and tech inside this is same good quality and reliable product as any other Volkswagen model and also good for off-road too and to show you how wrong you are again Volkswagen boss say in an interview from Geneva that the R-Line version of this T-Rock which will be available from June this year gets an extra feature (optional pack) that cover all the hard pieces bits of interior in leather so, your sensible girl hands will not feel those rough surfaces.. ;0)

Pop Laurentiu I know what I'm on about, my part time job is working at a vw/audi/seat/skoda service dealer.
@ellhem40166 жыл бұрын
And u think the golf estate is a good vehicle?? There’s hardly any on the road which suggests it’s awful.. T- Roc is lots better class above!
@poplaurentiu41486 жыл бұрын
What that has to do with my reasons explained above ? can you go in Golf SV off-road ? can you compare the Golf Alltrack ground clearance with T-Rock clearance ? i think is even worse if you work at vw/audi/seat/skoda service dealer and mocking about one of the new products that has just been released few months ago.. go on tell me how many T-Rocks did you fixed there at your part time work in that dealer service ?! you only say the T-Rock is pointless and disappointing but yet you do not give any strong reason why.. also you do not even point at least an alternative to this new SUV.. if you would be an owner or at least test one than i would consider otherwise sorry man but i need better opinions than yours..
