I may be wrong but it looked like you were using an allen bit or hex bit for the cv joint bolts. You need a 12 point star bit for CV joint bolts. Using an Allen bit or hex bit will strip them internally. 12 point star bits are readily available at most auto parts stores or online. Good job though on the work! I will follow the progress.

Not so....MANY use a 6mm allen...just depends!

I like your vid,and enjoy the music too (realy!) And I admire your improvisation! But I can’t help to think: “treat yourself and buy a €135,- chinese engine hoist”..... I own one for over 12 years and hoisted engines and gearboxes etc. of vans trucks cars boats you name it..... Keep up the good work,good luck with fixing your ‘bully’ and many safe miles to you!!

Is there a 2000 cc t3 water cooled, Passat 18 non-turbo engine suitable? Or another engine you would suggest.. best regards, greetings from Turkey.

You were wonderful.. I have an engine like this one, but it is air-cooled.. I want to change it to another engine.. because these engines are not available and are expensive.. What is the appropriate engine for a T3 gasoline car. Thank you in advance.

What sort of straps were those that you used to lower the engine out of the van? That was kind of genius. I need to do this in a few days.

Just standard securing straps. To be honest, not the kind that are ment for lifting. But if they are heavy duty enough they will hold up. Good luck!

I'm about to start on a similar project with a '73 Vanagon. I also know nothing about working on the mechanics of a VW. I saw in another video that you're sort of learning some of this as you go. Any tips on good resources you'd recommend to start digging into for VW mechanics and maintenance? I have my old copy of "Zen and the art of Volkswagen maintenance" that I've been meaning to read forever.

And how is it going? You learn a lot by just doing and dismantling. I get a lot of my information on the Dutch Volkswagen T3 forums and facebook groups. And i have a Haynes owners manual for Vw T3 1.9 WBX that helps a lot.

I have an air-cooled T3 2000 cc also, you can: Rebuild your air-cooled, get a rebuilt air-cooled. For the next level up you have to install a radiator and fan up front and cooling lines to the rear, once this is done you can go to : Subaru or Rabbit diesel or Vanagon water box. Subaru is the best.
