Just bought a used 2020 Tiguan SE with a nice package and the panoramic sunroof. I travel a lot for the company I work for, have driven lots of Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Hyundai &Kias are all nothing but plastic and a boring drive even with all the bells and whistles, Toyota are clumsy to drive and an odd mix of technology on the interior that does not match the exterior, also a bit cheap looking interior. The Tiguan which is my first VW just looks more polished , more refined interior, elegant and also fun to drive, reminds me of a go cart, I also like that the infotainment screen does not look like a bolted on tablet like everyone else, even though the digital dash looks nice I prefer my analog dash, just looks sportier, plus I have the All space version, it is a roomy midsized suv that I really enjoy. Some of my cons: Engine sound is strange growls, a little underpowered, gas mileage could have been better, but other than that pretty impressed with this vehicle.

162TSI R-line is a better car than RAV4, although I own a RAV4 Cruiser Hybrid AWD. BUT you are actually paying for the "Better" and it should be better when the price is 10K more.

Ive got a 2019 R-line tiguan with a 2.0 tsi 230hp engine (same as the 7.5 GTI engine) and its simply a pleasure to drive. Such an improvement to my previous 2012 model Tiguans. Its fully specked out with all the extras and im not noticing anything really new feature wise with the new 2021 models in comparisson to my 2019 one except for the new touch controlls that I would rather not have. Yes the DSG can sometimes be a little clumsy in normal driving or Eco modes but when put into sport or manual mode it really unleashes the full potential of the engine and just goes like a rocket lol. Coupled with a set of 19 inch wheels it handles amazingly in any situation, even on the windy mountain roads here in Switzerland as its possible to change the dynamic steering to improve the handling of the car. All in all if your after a Tiguan and dont like the newer interiors then I say go for one of the previous models with a decent engine.

People that buy a Rav4 are different clients than the ones that buy a Tiguan. You buy a Rav4 if you only care about fuel economy and reliability while you buy a Tiguan if you value comfort, quality, and a much more dynamic refined ride. Nothing bad with either choice, I personally find the Rav4 ugly and tinny.

From working on both VW and Toyota I know the one that will cost 1/4 less on maintenance and still be running trouble free at the 10 year mark... and it won't be the VW

making sure what you own in is still running a few years after the warranty expires to me is more important but if you flip them after a couple of years it's no problem but just don't buy a used one out of warranty.

VW for people who lease or only keep the car for the warranty period. Toyota for people who keep the car for the long term - and value economy, reliability and running costs.

I like that there is no reflective surfaces on the dash, great when the sun is directly overhead. That has been an issue with our earlier model Passat.

My girlfriend has the 2020 R line with 20 inch rims. The ride is hard and it tracks about everywhere. Never designed for those wide low profile tyres

Hi Tom, All the VW still got a problems with DSG gearbox? Heard every 4 years required big service or change.

They have improved from the original dsg dry clutch they still have been known to fail with the new system but no where near at rate of the old one .If it fails in four years as you suggested then your laughing as it's still under warranty but after 5y your on your own be prepared to stump up about 6k plus for a gearbox rebuild

@@robertceroli3512 had a gearbox replaced on a 2011 model in 2020. VW covered all costs. Not sure why they were so kind but it does happen…

all gearbox have problem with had hoc at low speed and middle speed and sometimes with oil system, the PSA system more efficient with gearbox 4 + 4 (Two gear low four normal and two very long).

I'd buy an Escape over this. 183kw in the base model. If I was worried about fuel economy I'd buy a hybrid. But really we are waiting for Australia to come out of the dark ages and offer better options in in terms of plug in hybrids, full electric etc.

Diesel vehicles are much more energy and pollution efficient on the global scale than electric vehicles. I do support diesel hybrids though and believe them to be extremely underrated.

Yes. It is interesting that the 1.4 TSI (which is surprisingly good) was updated to 1.5 TSI in many markets, as for Latin America, even if it has the same horse power and torque. 1.4 TSI for Australia, well, at least that engine is a very reliable one...

I much more prefer the lighter headline; and although the materials are soft, they're only adequate in quality and appearance. The interior may be functional, but its bland and just has no character whatsoever.

Worst car I’ve ever owned. The Tiguan is plagued with quality issues and VW are not on your side if you get a dud. You’ll be left high and dry if you have issues. Our Tiguan had a defective driveline and VW washed their hands of the problem by simply saying The Tiguan gearbox has a wide range of variance between vehicles and they deem the noise and vibration we had to be ‘within acceptable tolerances’ even though the head techs at two dealers said things were very unhealthy with the DSG gearbox. Never again. VW are not honourable and do not back their warranty.

I can’t say that the RAV4 Is way better than any of the Tiguan variants. The Tiguan Does not have any modern ideas in it, it is just an old fashioned car With consumption figures from 1975. And the feel is from 1960.

@@krane15 you can still say something is boring without adding fixes lol , I personally can think of better looking motors, I will give you examples, jaguar E pace , Volvo xc40 even the Land Rover discovery sport, I may find it boring but others may not its just my opinion which I am entitled to have without explaining myself its called taste. I find VW cars are using cheap parts, take the id3/4 looks like fisher price have designed the dash, seats look cheap makes me wonder if they are clawing back all the money it had to pay for the diesel scandal

On the other hand, if that negative opinion explains that the tomatoes were too ripe and the sauce was too salty, now you have a lot more information to go on for how you might improve the recipe in the future.
