This has happened to me and my Vectra B twice. Very annoying, but it can of course be much worse. I hope you can find used parts and repair it.

Glad you are ok Stephen and car's can always be repaired. Living in Scotland I have seen the damage a deer strike can do. A fellow work mate had two run out in front of him and his Astra was written off due to the damage and another was again a workmates van that took the hit.. I hope the repairs don't take too long for you to get mobile again...

Bad luck - glad it didn't come through the windscreen and you are therefore unhurt. Yes, in the Uk - absolutely would be a write off. But like you suggested, I would take the payout and buy it back as salvage in that scenario. Then a quick trip to the breakers yard for a new bonnet and grill (maybe a mirror) and fix it myself! That said, you'd be very lucky to find one in the right colour. If you had a red, silver, blue one maybe......but that's not the most common colour. And that's where it could fall down here in the UK as the cost of getting stuff painted is expensive. Good luck with it.

Lucky deer didn't smash pillar as that would be class as right off here in Australia, worst still if animal smash into window n hurt anyone n itself, as kangaroos have done some of this. My insurance doesn't cover kangaroo damage for free this would depend on level of cover n up front cover cost my $600 but P plate could be over 1200 that depends on your driving record.

I'm sorry this happened to you but my main concern is the welfare of the deer. Being an injured animal in a cold environment with the possibility of a slow and painful death to a beautiful creature horrifies me.

Wow, i bet that was an impact. Yes I understand that prices outside the UK for used cars are way higher than we have. Spain is another example, they are around 3 times the cost of UK cars. I hope you can get it fixed and back on the road. Keep us updated on it.

Deer are a common problem in the Scottish Highlands in the late dark nights and early mornings too. I remember carefully driving up the A9 one night with an idiot so close behind me I thought that he was on a short tow rope. Well we came to the first straight piece of road, only for a red deer stag to jump out in front of him as he flew past me It was terminal for stag and pretty much the same for his car. If he'd just sat behind me at a sensible speed and not flown past me in a hurry that accident wouldn't have happened. He learned an expensive lesson that night !!

Yea indeed and of course here it’s hunting season so always the most road accidents from deer at this time of year as they move around.

Hopefully the fiber plastic core support isn’t broken. Put on a black bonnet, grill and some round fog lights = instant special edition Rally Golf!

Not sure what you mean by that - as in the radiator core support ?

I hope your Golf will be fixed and not written off. It doesn't look like a huge amount of danage, but service centre inspection will tell. Good luck!

I never would have guessed you were in Canada! I'm so sorry about your poor VW. If there is no structural damage underneath or bad rust for that matter then it's most definitely worth searching for a spare hood and realigning the fender.

At this stage I’m inclined to agree

It's good that you weren't injured, Stephen. Hopefully Cooky the little Volkswagen Golf can be repaired. In Australia kangaroos are the big danger. If you drive at night there along country roads, they'll be right on the edges of the road eating grass. You have no way of knowing what they will do. If a big male kangaroo collides with your car and breaks the windscreen, they'll panic and attack you. Their claws and their kicks are very dangerous. People have been killed in situations like that. In Mindanao Philippines, hitting a street dog or cat, or a straying cow or carabao or goat is more likely. Nothing as dangerous as a kangaroo, deer or moose. Admittedly, hitting a cow or carabao would cause significant damage. When I took my Filipina wife Helly on some country drives in Australia in 2017, she was shocked by the number of dead kangaroos by the roadside. Most of them were hit by trucks. Wombats normally survive being hit by cars because they turn their very hard butts in the direction of the impact and bounce off.
