Came across this channel a couple of days ago. What a find! Great analyses and discussions. Congrats! Naturalized players are everywhere. Italy has what...one? Antropova. Yet, she learnt to play volleyball in Italy, she speaks perfect mother-tongue-level Italian and loves living in Italy. During an interview they asked her mother whether she would have preferred her daughter to live and play in Russia. She said she loves the idea of her being free and happy to do whatever she likes, then she added that she is at her happiest when she is in Italy, speaks Italian and lives like an Italian. Fahr moved to Italy when she was 3. Sylla was born in Italy and so was Egonu. Dear you, Italy has a great volleyball tradition, amazing academies and passion for the sport. We all have immigration in Europe, maybe we are just better at developing the new potential we (Europeans) all have. Velasco is a fantastic coach, a great man and an amazing life coach. Many Italians consider him the best coach the country has ever had (any sport). His interviews are so genuine and engrossing.

Aww thanks. Actually thank you for doing this podcast. You make following all the games so fun. It’s the best debrief after a day of games and you bring so much background info for those of us who don’t follow this for the entire year outside the VNL and the Olympics.

As a Turk, I agree with most of what you say. Yet, I think if the Turkish players were in a better health condition, they could be easily playing for the gold medal in the Olympics today. For the same health reasons, I think Brazil 🇧🇷 is the favorite for the bronze medal (unfortunately).Brazilians are at their peak condition while the Turkish team has so many problems, and appears not so ready to me. Well, even if the Turkish team loses this match, the team is very promising for future tournaments & 2028 Olympics with young & talented elite players. Win or lose we love them anyways 🇹🇷❤️🙏

I'm American but I always root for Canada when the USA is not playing, its so close to us and it just feels natural to root for them. I don't understand Everett's underlying bias against the US volleyball teams. I found this channel right before the vnl and the I don't remember it being this bad. The us men lost to canada and the us women beat canada, and still these guys vibed well. Now its pretty uncomfortable to watch. I feel like Rob can't even truly celebrate because everett started the whole thing very defensive and is psychologically subduing ROB. His whole tone in the matches before was the the USA is lucky that their opponents didn't show up. This is the olympics, and this is volleyball; if you prepare properly against a team, you WILL be able to shut down certain players. Last olympics we contained boskovic and egonu, this olympics we've contained egonu, stysiak and gabby. Its not a coincidence, these are the best players of the respective teams and thats who you are going to focus on slowing down. I think plummer has had a great career, every year she wins major club championships. The problem is she doesn't get to play her style of volleyball with the national team until now. They give her quick low sets where she barely has time to think about what she is doing, and often gets blocked. She doesn't need those sets; larson and robinson does because of their height (they need to beat the block). This match she got much better sets for her height and was able to tool alot and think about what shes doing. I still think they should use her in the pipe more. I am proud of her, people love to talk about her passing when the team loses, but she had a solid game today with the flu and you barely hear much. My biggest problem with the match for the USA is apart from plummer and washinton, the serves were not challenging enough at all. It really played into brazil;s game and kept them in the game. Otherwise I think we definitely have a chance against italy. This is not the same team from pool play, much less the same team from the vnl when italy easily beat the USA without plummer, and we still got a set. I wouldn't say Italy is unbeatable. The proplem is though, the USA will need to prepare for both egonu and and antropova. Its not as simple as shut down egonu and win the match anymore. Syllia's offense paired with both her and bosetti's passing is also going to be an issue. We will need everyone to serve good (and not in the net -_- ). I like our blocking so as long as wong is ready for the tips I think we will be able to take advantage of missed scoring opportunities from italy when we can. We were terrible at that in the vnl. Lastly, the bronze medal match is gonna be one of the most interesting bronze medal matches ever, as brasil and turkey are far from best of friends lol. I can hear ebrar's screams already (or goodness).

@@andrewford1194 He doesn't feel stupid, because according to him he didn't count the usa out and they are one of the best teams in the world...like that was not his tone at all prior. I felt like Rob was trying to cater to Everett because everett was already calling him a sore loser before he even spoke. At one point Rob was straight up disrespecting the US team to suck up to everett...yikes.

Hello from Turkey. My introduction to volleyball happened in 2003 when sultans of the net played the Eurovolley final in Ankara against Poland. We took 2nd place that year but it was a starting point of what will become a phenomenon in Turkish sports history. In the following years I lost interest and didn't even know we took the 2nd place again in Ankara against Serbia in 2019. Finally in 2023, everything has become real. The team that has always lost on the verge of ultimate success, took everything. VNL, Eurovolley, World Cup. So, I became an instant volleyball fan and started attending the games of our local volleyball team in the Sultans League. You should realize that we Turkish people are very success driven and once we reached the peak, we can't accept a lower level. Having said that, I wasn't holding out much hope for any color of medal in this Olympics due to recurring injuries and bad form of a lot of players. However despite all this negativity, I was pretty much impressed by our team for reaching the semi-finals. This is what it takes to be a great team. They proved that it wasn't coincidence winning it all in 2023 and they are now one the best 5 elite teams in the world. 2024 is Italy's year. Champions League finals on club team level, VNL and now Olympic finals. They play like the way we played last year. Totally invincible. Kudos to them. I hope we took the bronze and prove that we are still one of the gold medal contenders and the favorites for the upcoming tournaments. Honestly, even if we don't, it still doesn't matter. Turkiye will compete for championships at least for the upcoming 5 years as we have a young team. Sorry for the long post. I like your commentaries and hope you keep up the good work. Cheers ! 😊😇💯🤟

You really need a moderator for cchat, please don't allow bullies. There are so many racist comments by calling the Turkish team Cuban because of Vargas. Especially user called Enticinmay and others need a reminder. When Turkish fans try to explain to them that his comment is absurd by giving examples that no team has all Italian players and that immigrants can be superior players because of their physical characteristics, they label them as racist. In Italy Egonu is a star athlete we all admire, every team has star players, immigrants or not. Just get over it! We don't cry because other teams have star players. We appreciate and admire them. IT IS A TEAM SPORT! IT IS DISRESPECTFUL TO OTHER PLAYERS. Please stop bullying Turkish team or fans over Vargas. (If you are jealous and can't get over it, go cry about it at home and write in your diary) Last year Turkiye managed to be a good team with Vargas when they didn't have so many injured players, this year they are out of form and couldn't make it. The same with Andropova, Bosckovic, Gabi, they are just amazing, and Turkiye has Vargas. This year Turkiye played with 4-5 players injured. Italy played great as a team with a great system. Congratulations to Italy team from Turkey!

I think a part of why Türkiye and Brazil lost is that they are both super emotional peoples (I’m Turkish myself so I would know). That makes both countries susceptible to psychological ups and downs, thus affecting their game

Gabi not showing up until set 4 is what beat Brazil... but then she woke up and went into beast mode, but was a little too late. If she had been playing like that from set 1, it might be a different story. The US women stuck together as a group with big contributions from Carlini and Thompson off the bench.

Ivan Zaytsev was born in Italy. His father was playing there for years. But i agree that theres no problem using players that are honestly naturalized. But buying there services is just rong. In 2008 two brasilian players,😂 Renato Gomes and Jorge Terceiro, played for Georgia in the OG (got 4th). They changed there names to "Geor" and "Gia". Join there names and see how stupid some naturalizations can be.

You didn't see it (I did btw and explain it on my pre-game video, which is Turkish) because you missed two very important facts about Brazilian team. First one is the one that Rob said at 8:20. The second is the fact that Brazilian team's offensive leader has been Gabi who is the best all-around outside hitter. But she is not a player who can lead a team in the attacking department on this level. If a team relies on Gabi's attacking performance before Ana Cristina or opposite, that team cannot reach high enough maximum speed to pass a powerful opponent.

i believe Rob thought Poland would beat USA 3-1 or 3-0. And would be "surprised" if Brazil would even drop a set. I can go on how they say Carlini "doesn't mesh well with the team," or "play well off the bench." But praising her now for her defense in the 5th set. Typical...(insert nouns) to backtrack when they are wrong.

I don't think the matter about naturalized players has been tackled in the right way. I mean, I am Italian and I don't give a f. about the skin color of athletes playing for my country, as long as... they are Italian. I think every person on Earth has the right to change nationality for any reason. What I don't like in sports are countries that BUYS players. I'm going to complain about that? NO. Those countries are going to have my support? NO. Just to make an example: Italy have a whopping 4 naturalized players. Sylla and Egonu are born in Italy and lived there most of their life, what prevented them to be Italian since day one is just an absurd law. Antropova went in Italy when she was a teen an wanted to be Italian. Sara Fahr moved to Italy even younger than Antropova. Those are all Italian PEOPLE, on my book, no matter the job they do. On the other hand, Vargas is a BOUGHT player by Turkey. She moved there already grown up, she didn't had a consistency residence history in the country (she went back and forth from China) and she got citizenship ONLY because she is a top athlete, in spite of all genuine immigrants that under the same conditions would have never got citizenship. This is something that MUST be discouraged in sports and it will never have my support.

Turkish players were pathetic and full of excuses. Reality is except Vargas they don’t belong to Olympics level. Especially that Gunes and Karakurt 👎 They have bad stats in every category, lol. Their fans must be delusional. Shame on them.
